This training activity was carried out on PKK mothers in Damai Bahagia Village. The selection of PKK mothers was carried out based on the results of surveys and observations in Damai Bahagia Village, and set a target activity to conduct training on processing bananas into banana sticks. The problem faced is that bananas have not been processed into one of the leading products of MSMEs managed by PKK mothers and do not understand the calculation of cost of goods sold. Therefore, we provide training and assistance in processing banana sticks so as to increase income. The results of the training activities were in the form of various banana stick products and determination of cost of goods sold.
This paper presents a concise account of a community engagement initiative focused on empowering PKK mothers in Damai Bahagia Village through the processing of bananas into "Stik Pisang" (banana sticks). The project directly addresses two pertinent issues: the underutilization of local banana resources and a lack of understanding regarding the calculation of cost of goods sold (COGS) among potential MSME entrepreneurs. The selection of the target group and the focus on value-added products demonstrate a practical and relevant approach to local economic development and women's empowerment, aligning with common objectives in community service and applied research. The abstract highlights that the training activities successfully yielded "various banana stick products" and facilitated the "determination of cost of goods sold." These outcomes directly respond to the identified problems, indicating that the intervention achieved its immediate objectives of product diversification and basic financial literacy. The implication is a tangible improvement in the participants' capacity to transform raw materials into market-ready products and manage their potential businesses more effectively, thereby increasing their income-generating potential. This practical transfer of skills and knowledge represents a valuable contribution to the participants' economic independence and the village's micro-enterprise ecosystem. While the abstract clearly outlines the project's aims and immediate successes, for a journal submission, a more detailed presentation of the methodology and results would strengthen its academic rigor. Future iterations or a more extensive publication could benefit from quantifying the impact, such as the number of participants, the volume or value of products produced, or a pre- and post-assessment of COGS understanding and actual income increases. Additionally, discussing the sustainability plan for these new MSMEs, market access strategies, and any challenges encountered during the training would provide a more comprehensive picture. Despite these suggestions for enhancement, the paper successfully demonstrates a well-executed community initiative with clear positive outcomes for its beneficiaries.
