Introduction

Essentialisoitu moninaisuus suomalaisessa hyvinvointivaltiossa – nepsy identiteetti- ja palvelukategoriana. Kriittinen analyysi nepsy-kategoriasta suomalaisessa hyvinvointivaltiossa. Tutkii nepsyä identiteetti- ja palvelukategoriana, essentialisoitua moninaisuutta ja normaaliuden rajoja.

Abstract

Neuropsykiatriaan viittaava lyhenne nepsy on popularisoitunut ja normalisoitunut osaksi median, julkispalveluiden ja arjen kielenkäyttöä ja käytäntöjä. Tässä teoreettisessa artikkelissa lähestymme nepsyä diskursiivisena kategorisoimisen ja merkityksenannon tekona. Tarkastelemme nepsy-kategoriaa kriittisesti identiteetti- ja palvelukategoriana sekä hallinnan tekniikkana. Inklusiivisista pyrkimyksistään huolimatta nepsy-kategorisointi toiseuttaa ja mahdollistaa moninaisuuden tuotteistamisen. Identiteettikategoriana se pyrkii normaaliuden rajojen laventamiseen ja moninaisuuden arvostamiseen, mutta tavoite vesittyy, koska sen saavuttamiseksi valjastetaan toisilleen vastakkaiset neuropsykiatrian ja neuromonimuotoisuusliikkeen diskurssit. Palvelukategoriana nepsy pyrkii palveluiden yhdenvertaisuuden ja käytettävyyden sekä sosiaalisen osallisuuden takaamiseen, mutta ylläpitää samalla uusliberalistiseen palvelujärjestelmään sisään kirjoitettua käsitystä ”normaaliudesta”. Artikkelin lopuksi pohdimme nepsy-kategoriaan kytkeytyvien essentialistististen selitysmallien suhdetta hyvinvointivaltioon.
