Abstract

Review

The submitted work, "Simbología, intertextualidad y roles sexuales en *Rabia* (2004), de Sergio Bizzio," offers a compelling re-examination of a significant novel in contemporary Latin American literature. The abstract clearly articulates the paper's central thesis: while prior scholarship has rightly highlighted the novel's critique of economic inequality, this study proposes a deeper, symbiotic relationship between that critique and a complex symbolic structure that links economic disparity to gendered attitudes and sexual roles, specifically the patriarchal imposition of virility. This approach promises to enrich the critical discourse surrounding Bizzio's *Rabia* by moving beyond a singular interpretive lens. A notable strength of this proposed study lies in its ambition to uncover a nuanced interplay of symbolism and intertextuality, moving beyond surface-level readings. By foregrounding the connection between economic inequality and the societal pressures of virility within a patriarchal framework, the paper promises an intersectional analysis that is both timely and critically pertinent. This analytical angle suggests a valuable contribution to both literary criticism and gender studies, demonstrating how narrative structures can subtly, yet powerfully, articulate the pervasive influence of deeply ingrained social norms on individual and collective experience. The clarity of the abstract's thesis statement is commendable, setting clear expectations for a focused and rigorous analysis. To fully realize its ambitious scope, the complete paper would benefit from a robust engagement with theoretical frameworks that underpin the concepts of symbolism, intertextuality, and, crucially, the construction of virility within a patriarchal context. Elucidating the specific textual evidence—through character analysis, narrative patterns, or recurring motifs—that solidifies the link between economic inequality and the *imposition* of virility would be essential. Furthermore, a brief discussion of the chosen methodology for analyzing the "entramado simbólico e intertextual" would strengthen the paper's academic rigor. This study holds significant potential to offer a fresh and profound understanding of *Rabia*, solidifying its place as a text that critically interrogates multifaceted forms of societal oppression.
