Abstract

Review

This paper, "PENGEMBANGAN MEDIA VIDEO ANIMASI BERBASIS KONSERVASI UNTUK MENINGKATKAN HASIL BELAJAR IPS," presents a timely and relevant investigation into the integration of educational technology with environmental education. The study's primary objective was to develop and assess the design, feasibility, and effectiveness of conservation-based animated video media for improving Social Sciences (IPS) learning outcomes among 4th-grade students. Utilizing a robust Research and Development (R&D) methodology, the authors address a critical need for engaging and effective pedagogical tools that also instill values of conservation, offering a practical solution for enhancing both student engagement and learning. The research employed a comprehensive R&D approach, specifically following an 8-step model by Borg and Gall, which included systematic stages from problem identification and data collection to product design, validation, revision, and trials. This structured methodology was applied to a sample of 28 fourth-grade students, with data gathered through diverse techniques such as interviews, observations, questionnaires, and documentation. The findings strongly support the utility of the developed media: expert validations from material and media specialists yielded impressively high scores (93.75% and 100% respectively), affirming the product's quality and instructional soundness. Furthermore, the media demonstrated significant effectiveness, evidenced by an N-gain score of 0.32, which is categorized as high, and overwhelmingly positive responses from both teachers (87%) and students (84.6%). Overall, this study presents compelling evidence for the viability and effectiveness of conservation-based animated video media in enhancing IPS learning, particularly on the topic of energy and its changes. The clear R&D framework, combined with strong validation results from experts and users, constitutes a significant strength. However, while the results are promising for the specific context of SDIT Izzatul Islam Getasan, the relatively small sample size and single-school focus suggest that generalizability to broader populations or different educational settings warrants further investigation. Future research could benefit from extending the study to a larger and more diverse student population, exploring the long-term impact on learning retention and conservation attitudes, and perhaps comparing the animated video with other forms of instructional media. Nevertheless, the findings robustly conclude that this conservation-based animated video media is a well-designed, feasible, and effective tool, contributing positively to both educational outcomes and environmental awareness.
