Abstract

This study presents a bibliometric analysis of the scholarly literature on innovative entrepreneurship with a specific focus on its integration with sustainability principles. Using data from the Scopus database covering publications from 2001 to 2025, the analysis employed VOSviewer to visualize co-authorship networks, citation patterns, and keyword co-occurrence maps. The results reveal a dynamic and interdisciplinary field shaped by influential contributors such as Audretsch, Acs, and Thurik, with collaborative hubs concentrated in the United States and Europe. The conceptual core of the literature revolves around economic development, innovation activity, and entrepreneurial behavior, while recent trends point to a growing emphasis on sustainability, education, and digital transformation. Overlay and heatmap visualizations demonstrate an evolving research agenda increasingly aligned with global sustainability goals. The study identifies gaps in geographical representation and calls for further exploration of impact-driven entrepreneurship, particularly in emerging economies. These findings offer valuable insights for scholars, policymakers, and practitioners aiming to advance sustainable innovation through entrepreneurship.

Review

This study presents a timely and relevant bibliometric analysis exploring the intersection of innovative entrepreneurship and sustainability principles. By leveraging data from the Scopus database and employing VOSviewer for visualization, the authors aim to map the intellectual landscape, identify key contributors, and discern evolving trends within this dynamic field. The abstract clearly articulates the study's scope, covering publications from 2001 to 2025, which, while extending into the future, suggests a forward-looking perspective on trend analysis. The initial findings concerning influential authors (Audretsch, Acs, Thurik) and geographical collaborative hubs (US, Europe) provide a solid foundation for understanding the established core of the literature. A significant strength of the proposed work lies in its ability to highlight the conceptual evolution of the field. The abstract effectively points to a shift from a primary focus on economic development, innovation activity, and entrepreneurial behavior towards an increasing emphasis on sustainability, education, and digital transformation. The use of overlay and heatmap visualizations to demonstrate alignment with global sustainability goals is particularly promising, suggesting a robust empirical approach to tracking these thematic shifts. The identification of recent trends and the interdisciplinary nature of the field underscore the study's potential to offer valuable insights for scholars, policymakers, and practitioners engaged in advancing sustainable innovation through entrepreneurial endeavors. While the study appears comprehensive in mapping the intellectual structure, it also proactively identifies critical gaps, notably in geographical representation and the exploration of impact-driven entrepreneurship, particularly within emerging economies. This self-awareness strengthens the study's contribution by not only describing the current state but also signposting crucial avenues for future research. The call for further exploration in these underserved areas is a commendable aspect, positioning the work as a catalyst for a more inclusive and globally representative research agenda in sustainable innovation and entrepreneurship. Overall, this bibliometric analysis promises to be an important reference point for understanding the past, present, and future trajectory of innovative entrepreneurship aligned with sustainability.
