This paper addresses a highly pertinent issue in urban heritage management: the visual intrusion of commercial and historical graphic objects on the facades of artistic and historical buildings within Tampico's historic center. By framing these objects as sources of "discontinuities," the study effectively highlights the tension between modern commercial expression and the preservation of architectural integrity. The central objective, to discuss the need for updated heritage regulation, is clear and resonates with ongoing challenges faced by many historic cities globally, making this work relevant beyond its specific geographic context. The methodology employed is qualitative, relying on interviews with key informants, which is appropriate for exploring the complex symbolic relations and social uses of space that the abstract identifies as crucial. The conceptual framework, spanning graphic identificative regulation, visual pollution, and built heritage, provides a robust interdisciplinary lens through which to analyze the problem. A key strength lies in its explicit recognition of the "transcendence of symbolic relations and social uses of the space" inherent in Tampico's architectural heritage, moving beyond purely aesthetic concerns to encompass cultural and economic dimensions. This holistic perspective strengthens the argument for comprehensive regulatory reform. While the abstract clearly outlines the study's scope and contributions, it could benefit from a slightly more elaborated mention of the specific types of "graphic objects" discussed or an indication of the number or diversity of "key informants" to give a better sense of the depth of the qualitative data collection. Nevertheless, the paper's practical implications are well-articulated, culminating in a strong recommendation for updating regulations to encompass urban development, graphic and historical heritage conservation, and commercial advertising. This direct call to action positions the study as a valuable contribution to policy-making efforts aimed at safeguarding Tampico's unique heritage.
