Abstract

Review

This study, titled "Pendidikan dalam Komunitas Tukang Ojek: Perspektif dan Harapan Terhadap Sekolah Anak" (Education within the Motorcycle Taxi Driver Community: Perspectives and Hopes for Children's Schooling), presents a timely and important exploration into the educational aspirations and challenges faced by a specific, often overlooked, segment of society. Employing a qualitative approach, the research effectively aims to uncover the nuanced perspectives of motorcycle taxi drivers regarding their children's education, along with the inherent obstacles. The chosen methodology, involving observations, interviews, and documentation at local online ojek bases, is well-suited to capture the depth of experiences and sentiments that quantitative methods might miss, offering valuable insights into the social dynamics and individual motivations within this community. The findings eloquently highlight a compelling paradox: despite significant economic and time constraints, the motorcycle taxi drivers demonstrate a profound awareness and high hopes for their children's educational futures. Their view of education as a crucial pathway to improving family living standards underscores a resilient and forward-looking mindset. Furthermore, the abstract points to the vital role of social solidarity within the community in fostering moral support and encouragement, an often-underestimated factor in educational attainment. However, the research critically identifies the lack of adequate support from government and educational institutions as a primary impediment, revealing a disconnect between the community's internal resolve and external systemic limitations. This finding is crucial for understanding the broader socio-educational landscape. The study's concluding call for greater attention from various stakeholders to ensure access to decent education for these children is not only justified but imperative. While the research successfully articulates the perspectives, hopes, and obstacles, a deeper dive into specific policy recommendations or actionable strategies that could bridge the gap between community aspirations and institutional support would further strengthen its impact. Future research could build upon these foundational insights by exploring the effectiveness of existing informal support networks, developing collaborative models involving local government and NGOs, or conducting comparative studies with similar informal worker communities. Overall, this paper makes a significant contribution by shedding light on an underrepresented group, offering a nuanced understanding of their educational struggles and aspirations, and strongly advocating for more inclusive educational policies.
