Abstract

The potential and uniqueness of Menari Village as a tourist village in Semarang Regency needs to be introduced to the wider community. Based on the survey that was carried out, the community service found problems that needed to be resolved, including 1) Menari Tanon Village already has one social media (Instagram) but it has not been managed optimally; 2) lack of human resource capabilities in terms of understanding and skills in creating content that carries local cultural themes and social media management. The aims of this service include: 1) improving social media management; 2) increasing human resource capabilities and forming cadres. One solution offered to this problem is providing training on content and social media management. The approach used in this service activity is Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) which takes the form of a training and mentoring method. The stages carried out in this service include 1) FGD with Pokdarwis, 2) training and assistance in social media management. The training activity involved 17 participants who were the young generation of Tanon Hamlet. The results of the training indicate increased understanding and ability to create content as well as manage social media and create. After the training is related to techniques for creating content on social media with activity output in the form of creative content videos. Next, assistance is provided with social media management by forming a social media team and creating a posting schedule

Review

This community service initiative, titled "Pelatihan Pengelolaan Media Sosial sebagai Upaya Penguatan Cultural Destination Branding Desa Wisata Menari Tanon Kabupaten Semarang," addresses a pertinent need for rural tourism development. The abstract clearly identifies critical challenges faced by Menari Tanon Village: an existing but underutilized social media presence (Instagram) and a deficit in local human resource capabilities for content creation and optimal social media management. The project's aims—to improve social media management and enhance human resource capacity through training and cadre formation—are well-aligned with these identified problems. Employing a Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) approach through training and mentoring, the project offers a practical and engaged solution to leverage digital platforms for cultural destination branding. The intervention was meticulously structured, beginning with a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) involving Pokdarwis (Tourism Awareness Group) members, followed by comprehensive training and assistance in social media management. Notably, the program engaged 17 young generation participants from Tanon Hamlet, ensuring that the acquired skills are disseminated among an active demographic. The immediate results reported are encouraging: participants demonstrated increased understanding and ability in content creation techniques and social media management. This directly led to the production of creative content videos and the establishment of a dedicated social media team, complete with a posting schedule, indicating a successful initial phase in building local capacity and establishing foundational mechanisms for improved digital presence. While the abstract effectively outlines the intervention and its direct training outcomes, a more comprehensive evaluation of its impact on the overarching goal of "cultural destination branding" would significantly strengthen the paper. The reported results primarily focus on the *outputs* of the training (increased understanding, content creation, team formation) rather than the *outcomes* for the village's branding or actual tourist engagement. Future reporting could benefit from including metrics such as increased social media reach, engagement rates, website traffic, or, ideally, actual visitor numbers or inquiries, to demonstrate the effectiveness of the strengthened branding. Furthermore, discussing strategies for the long-term sustainability of the social media team and the continued application of learned skills beyond the immediate assistance period would add valuable insight into the project's enduring impact. Despite these suggestions for broader impact assessment, the initiative represents a valuable and well-executed effort in empowering local communities through digital literacy.
