Abstract

Abstract: Indonesia consists of various elements, differences, and diversities which, if not wisely managed, can trigger conflict or intergroup friction, as seen in the social unrests in Ambon (1999–2002) and Poso (2000–2002), which were driven by unmanaged social and religious identity differences. Behind these differences lies a unifying national motto: Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity). However, slogans alone are not enough without being accompanied by concrete actions, which must be strengthened by cultivating moderate attitudes in daily life—one of which is religious moderation, a stance that keeps individuals or groups from falling into either extreme. This paper aims to explore how efforts to strengthen religious moderation can help individuals or groups avoid division and extremism, supported by the restoration of education. This research employs a qualitative approach using a literature study method by examining various sources relevant to the research topic. The findings indicate that the strengthening of religious moderation within educational settings can be implemented through several essential aspects, namely justice, balance, exemplary conduct, tolerance, and accommodation of local wisdom, all of which are reinforced by practicing the fruits of the Spirit, in line with the foundation of religious life, particularly within Christianity. Furthermore, in the educational context, religious moderation, which ideally should be instilled from an early age, must be supported by educational institutions through the restoration of education so that the original essence of education, which has been increasingly diminished, can be reinforced. All of these aspects are interrelated and aim to diminish the ongoing moral decline in today’s society. Keywords: Fruit of the Spirit; religious moderation; educational restoration Abstrak: Indonesia terdiri atas berbagai unsur, perbedaan, dan keberagaman yang, jika tidak dikelola dengan bijak, dapat memicu konflik atau gesekan antarkelompok, seperti yang pernah terjadi dalam kerusuhan sosial di Ambon (1999–2002) dan Poso (2000–2002), yang dipicu oleh perbedaan identitas sosial dan keagamaan yang tidak dikelola secara moderat. Dibalik perbedaan tersebut, ada sebuah semboyan yang mengingkatnya, yakni Bhinneka Tunggal Ika. Semboyan saja tidak cukup tanpa diimbangi dengan aksi yang nyata, yang perlu dikuatkan dengan menanamkan sifat moderat di dalam kehidupan sehari-hari, salah satunya moderasi beragama, sebuah kondisi yang tidak membuat seseorang atau kelompok berada pada dua kutub ekstrem. Tulisan ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana upaya penguatan moderasi beragama yang diharapkan mampu menghindarkan diri atau kelompok dari perpecahan bahkan kutub ekstrem, yang dalam upaya tersebut didukung oleh usaha merestorasi pendidikan. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah kualitatif dengan metode studi pustaka yakni dengan meneliti berbagai sumber bacaan yang terkait dengan topik penelitian. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penguatan moderasi beragama dalam lingkungan pendidikan dilaksanakan dengan beberapa aspek penting, yakni melaksanakan keadilan, keseimbangan, keteladanan, toleransi dan akomodatif terhadap kearifan lokal, yang dibantu dengan melaksanakan buah-buah roh, sesuai dengan pondasi kehidupan beragama, khususnya kristiani. Tak hanya itu, dalam konsep pendidikan, moderasi beragama yang seharusnya dimulai sedini mungkin, harus didukung oleh lembaga pendidikan, yang dilakukan dengan merestorasi pendidikan, agar konsep awal pendidikan yang selama ini sudah mulai pudar, dapat dikuatkan kembali. Semua hal tersebut berhubungan satu sama lain, dan bertujuan agar dekandensi moral yang berkembang dewasa ini dapat dipudarkan. Kata Kunci: Buah-buah Roh; moderasi beragama; restorasi pendidikan

While the paper addresses a critical issue with a compelling argument, certain areas could benefit from further elaboration. The integration of the "Fruit of the Spirit," while a valid finding within the study's scope, warrants a clearer discussion on its applicability and contextualization within a multi-religious national framework for religious moderation. Given Indonesia's diverse religious landscape, expanding on how this specific Christian concept can resonate with or be adapted for a broader audience, or how it contributes to a universally applicable model of moderation, would strengthen its impact. Additionally, the methodology, described generally as a "literature study," could be enhanced by providing more detail on the selection criteria for sources, the analytical framework used, and how findings were synthesized. Finally, the concept of "educational restoration" could be more concretely defined, offering specific examples of what this entails in terms of curriculum, pedagogy, and institutional policies to provide more actionable insights for educational practitioners and policymakers.
