This paper addresses a highly pertinent and timely topic, examining the complex interplay between Brazil's economic and political crises during the Dilma Rousseff administration and the emergence of a distinctive new wave of Brazilian migration to the United States. The central objective is to analyze the relationship between the economic downturn and a shift in the socioeconomic profile of Brazilian migrants, particularly those choosing Florida as their destination. By focusing on a "new profile" that reportedly differs from previous migratory movements, the article promises to shed light on evolving motivations and demographic characteristics within this significant transnational phenomenon. The article presents an intriguing and provocative hypothesis, positing that the crisis-induced migration was not solely a response to economic hardship but also significantly shaped by a perceived threat to the privileges of certain middle-class segments. It highlights the purported role of "camadas dominantes" and the media in disseminating a narrative of fear and insecurity, ultimately contributing to the impeachment of President Rousseff in 2016. This perspective suggests that the subsequent search for opportunities in the United States was driven by a desire to maintain pre-existing standards of living, offering a more nuanced explanation for migration that incorporates sociopolitical anxieties and class-specific motivations alongside traditional economic push factors. The focus on how these specific layers of society reacted to perceived threats to their status is a particularly strong conceptual point. While the proposed analytical framework is compelling, the abstract raises several questions regarding the methodological approach and the depth of analysis. To fully substantiate its claims, the paper would benefit from a clear articulation of how this "new socioeconomic profile" will be empirically defined and distinguished from previous migratory waves. Furthermore, given the central role attributed to media coverage and its impact on the "perception of threat," a robust methodology for analyzing media narratives and demonstrating their causal link to migration decisions would significantly strengthen the argument. Clarifying the operational definition of "camadas dominantes" and "classe média" within the Brazilian context would also enhance precision. Exploring potential counterarguments or alternative interpretations of migration drivers could further enrich the discussion, ensuring a comprehensive and critically informed analysis of this multifaceted migratory movement.
