Abstract

According to data from the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbudristek) in August 2024, the number of children dropping out of school in Indonesia reached 4.6 million. Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency from 2014 to 2024, the levels of education that contribute most to the drop out rates are at the junior high school to senior high school levels. In Rarang Batas village, out of a total of 340 teenagers attending junior high school, only 150 continue to senior high school, indicating a significant decline. This issue may be caused by the low level of education and the closed mindset of parents towards the importance of education, as well as the weak economic condition of the family. This study aims to identify and analyze economic limitations, work orientation, and lack of support as causes of drop out among adolescents in Rarang Batas Village. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. The results of this study indicate that there are 3 impacts of the family environment that are causes of drop out among adolescents in Rarang Batas Village. Namely: 1) Limited access to education 2) Priority of work over school 3) Lack of moral and academic support.
