Tulevaisuuteen suuntaavaa uraohjausta etsimässä: opinto-ohjaajaopiskelijoiden ajatuksia ohjauksesta ja tulevaisuudesta

Introduction

Tulevaisuuteen suuntaavaa uraohjausta etsimässä: opinto-ohjaajaopiskelijoiden ajatuksia ohjauksesta ja tulevaisuudesta. Tutkimme opinto-ohjaajaopiskelijoiden käsityksiä tulevaisuuteen suuntaavasta uraohjauksesta ja elinikäisistä urasuunnittelutaidoista. Tulokset paljastavat kehitystarpeita ohjausosaamisessa.

Abstract

Elinikäisten urasuunnittelutaitojen tukeminen on ollut ohjauksen kehittämisen ja tutkimuksen keskiössä Suomessa jo jonkin aikaa. Sitä on määritelty muun muassa Elinikäisen ohjauksen strategiassa ja opetussuunnitelmissa. Tutkimustietoa siitä, miten elinikäisiä urasuunnittelutaitoja käytännössä tuetaan tai miten ne ymmärretään, ei ole vielä kattavasti. Opinto ja uraohjauksen on sanottu olevan luonteeltaan aina tulevaisuuteen suuntaavaa. Kuitenkaan opinto- ja uraohjauksen teorioissa tätä näkökulmaa ei ole tarkennettu: mitä se tarkoittaa ja miten sitä tehdään käytännössä. Selvitimme tutkimuksessamme opinto-ohjaajaopiskelijoiden ymmärrystä uraohjauksesta ja sitä, miten tulevaisuusnäkökulma ilmenee heidän ohjausajattelussaan. Aineistoina käytimme opiskelijoiden päättötehtävän kirjoituksia, joista sisällönanalyysillä hahmottui neljä uraohjaukseen kiinnittyvää luokkaa: Työura ja työllistyminen, Ammattitaito ja oppiminen, Omannäköinen elämä sekä Valinnat ja päätökset. Tulevaisuus jäsentyi myös neljän näkökulman kautta: Toivo, Tulevaisuuden suunnittelu, Tulevaisuuden ennakointi ja Tulevaisuuteen suuntaaminen. Tulostemme valossa opinto-ohjaajaksi opiskelevien ohjausajattelussa elinikäisten urasuunnittelutaitojen tukeminen ja tulevaisuusnäkökulma on varsin ohutta. Näyttäisikin siltä, että monista kehittämistoimista huolimatta uraohjausta ja elinikäisiä urasuunnittelutaitoja tukevaa ohjausosaamista tulisi entisestään painottaa. Samoin tulevaisuuteen suuntaavaa uraohjauksen näkökulmaa tulisi tarkastella käsitteellisesti ja käytännöllisesti.

The paper posits that while career guidance is inherently future-oriented, current theories lack a clear conceptualization of what this means and how it translates into practice. This timely study, therefore, aims to shed light on how future student counsellors perceive career guidance and integrate a future perspective into their professional thinking. To explore this underexamined area, the researchers employed a qualitative approach, analyzing data derived from student counsellors' final assignments. Through a systematic content analysis, the study identified four key categories that underpinned the students' understanding of career guidance: "Work career and employment," "Professional skills and learning," "Life as one chooses," and "Choices and decisions." Concurrently, the future perspective within their guidance thinking was categorized into "Hope," "Future planning," "Anticipation of the future," and "Orientation towards the future." The most salient finding, however, was that the integration of lifelong career planning skills and a robust future perspective appeared to be "quite thin" in the guidance thinking of these aspiring professionals. The findings of this study carry significant implications for the field of career guidance education and practice. By revealing a perceived shallow understanding of future-oriented guidance among student counsellors, the paper underscores a potential disconnect between policy aspirations and the preparedness of future practitioners. This suggests that despite various developmental efforts, there is a continued need to strengthen the emphasis on career guidance competence that specifically supports lifelong career planning skills. Furthermore, the authors aptly recommend a deeper conceptual and practical examination of the "future-oriented career guidance" perspective, urging for clearer definitions and actionable strategies to better equip counsellors to navigate and facilitate future planning with their clients.
