ABSTRACT A perlocutionary speech act is an utterance uttered by a speaker that often has influence or effect on the listener. This effect or power of influence is intentionally or unintentionally created by the speaker. The method used in this research is a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. Based on this research, it can be seen that there are types of perlocutionary speech acts, namely non-commissive speech acts with 2 findings with a percentage of 3.08%, directive perlocutionary speech acts with 27 findings with a percentage of 41.53%, perlocutionary speech acts with a percentage of 4 declarations. 6, 15%, expressive perlocutionary speech acts were 22 findings with a percentage of 33.85 and representative perlocutionary speech acts were 10 findings with a percentage of 15.38%. From the data obtained, it can be concluded that the types of perlocutionary speech acts, namely directive speech acts and expressive speech acts, have a greater number compared to other types of perlocutionary speech acts in the novel.
This study undertakes an analysis of perlocutionary speech acts within Andrea Hirata's novel, "Guru Aini," employing a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. The research aims to categorize and quantify the various types of perlocutionary acts present in the text, exploring how utterances within the narrative exert influence or effect on listeners. This topic is highly relevant to pragmatics and literary stylistics, offering insights into the nuanced ways language functions to shape meaning and character interaction in a significant work of Indonesian literature. The methodological choice is appropriate for the detailed linguistic examination proposed. The abstract effectively summarizes the core findings of the analysis, providing a clear quantitative breakdown of the identified perlocutionary speech act types. It reports that directive perlocutionary acts are the most prevalent, accounting for 41.53% of the findings (27 instances), closely followed by expressive perlocutionary acts at 33.85% (22 instances). Other categories, including representative, declarations, and non-commissive speech acts, are also identified with their respective frequencies and percentages. This detailed statistical presentation, even within a qualitative framework, offers a robust overview of the perlocutionary landscape within the chosen novel, clearly highlighting the dominance of directive and expressive functions. However, a notable gap in the abstract is the complete absence of any discussion regarding the study's stated "Implications for Indonesian Language Learning," as prominently featured in the title. While the linguistic analysis of perlocutionary acts is thoroughly summarized, the abstract fails to bridge this analysis with its pedagogical relevance. A crucial aspect for strengthening the paper's contribution would be to elaborate on how the identification and understanding of these speech acts can specifically benefit Indonesian language learners, perhaps in developing pragmatic competence, enhancing literary comprehension, or informing teaching methodologies. The full paper would significantly benefit from a dedicated section detailing these crucial implications to fulfill the promise made in its title.
