Abstract

This research is fundamentally driven by the alarming prevalence of child abuse and traumatic occurrences within Indonesia, which inevitably foster deep-seated "inner child wounds." This phenomenon exerts a significant impact on emotional stability, interpersonal relationships, and adult behavior, often leading to severe psychological conditions like depression. The primary objective is to explore and interpret the nuanced representation of these childhood wounds within the characters Sita and Adil from Joko Anwar’s film "Siksa Kubur," utilizing the film as a sophisticated audio-visual communication medium. Adopting a descriptive qualitative approach, this study employs John Fiske’s semiotic framework—analyzing levels of reality, representation, and ideology—while integrating Carl Jung’s psychological concepts regarding abandonment, guilt, trust, and neglect. The findings demonstrate that Sita and Adil’s wounds are intricately woven into the film’s visual and narrative sign systems. Specifically, the analysis identifies a "guilt wound" originating from their parents' deaths and a "trust wound" toward religious doctrines, which serve as the central catalysts for their destructive adult actions. In conclusion, childhood wounds are represented as a complex accumulation of unresolved trauma and fractured interpersonal communication that persists into adulthood, dictating one’s personality until the underlying emotions are fully processed.
