Abstract

AbstractThis study seeks to elucidate the doctrine of the Triune God as the constitutive and characteristic foundation of the Christian faith. It addresses the central question: why can the doctrine of the Triune God serve as a solid source for the constitutive basis of the Christian faith and provide practical direction for its distinctive expression? The thesis proposed in this paper is that the Triune God forms both the constitutive foundation and the defining characteristic of the Christian faith, which are intrinsically connected to praxis in all dimensions of life. The methodological approach involves a theological dialogue with the thought of Catherine Mowry LaCugna, Jürgen Moltmann, and John D. Zizioulas to explore the relational and communal nature of the Triune God. From this dialogue, the study draws implications for Christian praxis, demonstrating how Trinitarian theology offers a dynamic framework for understanding faith not merely as doctrine, but as lived communion with God and others.

Review

"Perikhoresis Trinitaris" promises a deep and insightful exploration into the dynamic relationality of the Triune God, immediately signaling a sophisticated theological inquiry. The study's core objective is to illuminate the doctrine of the Triune God as the fundamental constitutive and characteristic basis of Christian faith, addressing the crucial question of how this doctrine can serve as both a solid foundation and a practical guide for Christian expression. The thesis boldly posits that the Triune God provides this constitutive foundation and defining characteristic, intimately linking Trinitarian theology to praxis across all dimensions of life. This establishes a highly ambitious scope, moving beyond mere theological exposition to practical application and contextual relevance. The methodological approach outlines a theological dialogue with Catherine Mowry LaCugna, Jürgen Moltmann, and John D. Zizioulas, all seminal figures for exploring the relational and communal nature of the Triune God. This engagement with prominent Western theologians provides a robust framework for conceptualizing perichoresis and its implications. Crucially, the Indonesian abstract importantly expands this scope by mentioning collaboration with "Asian theologians" and by explicitly framing the paper's contribution as a "bridge for dialogue with other religions and beliefs in the Asian context." This added layer introduces a vital contextual and interreligious dimension that significantly enhances the paper's potential impact and relevance, offering a unique opportunity to enrich the global Trinitarian discourse with Asian perspectives and concerns. The study aims to draw significant implications for Christian praxis, reframing Trinitarian theology not just as abstract doctrine but as a dynamic framework for lived communion with God and others. The explicit inclusion of interreligious dialogue in the Asian context further positions this work as highly pertinent, potentially fostering new avenues for understanding and engagement between diverse faith traditions. By connecting the profound theological concept of perichoresis to both intra-Christian lived experience and broader interfaith discussions, "Perikhoresis Trinitaris" holds the promise of being a timely and impactful contribution, offering both theological depth and practical wisdom for the contemporary global church, particularly in its engagement with the complexities of the Asian religious landscape.
