This paper presents a timely and relevant community engagement initiative focused on 'Penyuluhan Kesadaran Hukum Terkait Upaya Pencegahan Kejahatan Minuman Keras' in Nabire, Papua. The study tackles the intricate challenge of balancing the preservation of 'bobo,' a traditional liquor deeply embedded in local cultural practices and recognized as intangible cultural heritage, with the critical need to prevent alcohol-related crime. The core objective of this outreach is to enhance the community's legal awareness, specifically concerning Presidential Regulation No. 78/2007, to foster wise cultural preservation while simultaneously promoting adherence to legal norms and reducing social issues arising from excessive consumption. A significant strength of this work lies in its direct, community-centric approach ('pengabdian masyarakat'), which addresses a specific and pressing issue within the Nabire community. By engaging directly with local customs and traditions, the initiative demonstrates a commendable commitment to practical application of academic knowledge. The recognition of 'bobo' as intangible cultural heritage adds a crucial layer of complexity and sensitivity to the legal awareness campaign, positioning the project at the intersection of cultural preservation, public health, and criminal justice. This interdisciplinary approach, coupled with the participatory method of lectures and Q&A, appears well-suited to the context, fostering dialogue and potentially leading to more sustainable behavioral change. The reported positive impact underscores the value of such Tridharma activities in directly addressing societal challenges. While the abstract clearly articulates the intervention's goals and methods, future iterations or related publications could benefit from a more detailed exposition of the immediate and long-term impacts, perhaps through qualitative or quantitative metrics beyond the general "positive impact." Such data would further solidify the evidence base for the effectiveness of this particular approach. Nevertheless, the paper makes a valuable contribution by highlighting a nuanced cultural and legal dilemma and proposing a practical pathway towards resolution. This initiative serves as an excellent model for how academic institutions can engage with complex local issues, fostering legal compliance, cultural respect, and community well-being, ultimately working towards a more peaceful and crime-free environment in line with the proposed outcomes.
