Abstract

This study develops a learning media based on Adobe Flash CS6 for Indonesia’s role in ASEAN cooperation at State Elementary School 1 Wajak. The media is packaged as an Android application for easy operation. The objectives are: (1) to develop learning media based on Adobe Flash CS6 according to the material, (2) to analyze its feasibility, and (3) to analyze its practicality. This research follows a research and development (R&D) approach using qualitative and quantitative data. The development refers to Borg & Gall’s (2003) model with eight stages: research and data collection, initial information, planning, initial product format development, initial trials, product revision, wide field trials, final product revision, and implementation. The results show that the media has a high validity level: content expert (96%, very valid), linguist (94%, very valid), and media expert (80%, valid). The practicality test results show that the teacher’s response was 96% (very practical), student responses in the initial trial were 92% (very practical), and in the wide trial were 93% (very practical). These findings indicate that the developed learning media is feasible, valid, and effective for social science learning.

Review

This paper presents a timely and relevant study on the development of an Adobe Flash CS6-based learning media, packaged as an Android application, specifically designed for teaching ASEAN cooperation material to elementary school students in Indonesia. In an era where digital literacy and engaging pedagogical tools are paramount, particularly at foundational educational levels, the initiative to create an accessible and interactive medium is commendable. The research aims to address the critical need for innovative teaching methods by developing, evaluating the feasibility, and assessing the practicality of this new educational resource, thereby contributing to the evolving landscape of elementary social science education. The methodology employed, a research and development (R&D) approach based on the well-established Borg & Gall model, provides a systematic framework for the media's creation and evaluation. The study's rigor is evident in its multi-faceted validation process, encompassing content, linguistic, and media expert reviews, all yielding impressively high validity scores (96%, 94%, and 80% respectively). Furthermore, the practicality tests, involving both teachers and students across initial and wide-field trials, demonstrated exceptional results, with responses consistently above 92% indicating a 'very practical' classification. These strong empirical findings robustly support the claim that the developed learning media is indeed feasible, valid, and highly practical for its intended audience and subject matter. While the study successfully demonstrates the high validity and practicality of the developed learning media, a key area for potential future enhancement and discussion revolves around the direct measurement of learning effectiveness. The abstract concludes that the media is "effective," yet the presented results primarily focus on expert validation and user perception (practicality), rather than a direct assessment of student learning gains or academic achievement post-intervention. Future research could benefit significantly from incorporating pre- and post-test designs or comparative studies to quantitatively evaluate the impact of this media on students' understanding and retention of ASEAN cooperation concepts. Additionally, considering the long-term support and evolving landscape of educational technology, a brief reflection on the sustainability and scalability of Adobe Flash CS6 as the core development platform could enrich the discussion on the media's future utility. Despite these suggestions, the paper offers a valuable contribution to educational technology and elementary pedagogy.
