Abstract

Troso is one of the villages in Karanganom District, Klaten Regency. Farmers are the majority of the community's livelihoods. So far, the potential of Troso Village has not been utilized optimally, such as the utilization of plants in the surrounding environment. Existing plants can be used as ecoprint batik. Empowering PKK mothers through making ecoprint batik tote bags with the pounding technique is one of the strategic efforts in developing their skills and creativity, while preserving the environment, which of course also utilizes plants in the Troso Village environment. The main objective of this program is to equip PKK mothers with the skills of making tote bags using ecoprint batik and pounding techniques, which can increase their household income. The objects of this empowerment are PKK mothers who are involved in practical training and production. The methods used are training and demonstration methods. The training process includes education and is continued with direct demonstrations, independent practice, and guidance in tote bag design. The results of this program include improving skills in handicrafts and optimizing the use of plants in the Troso Village environment to become ecoprint motif materials. In addition, this program has also succeeded in strengthening awareness of the preservation of batik culture and environmental sustainability. If this is done sustainably, it can be a new business opportunity for the Women of Troso Village.

Review

The abstract presents a compelling and well-conceived community empowerment initiative titled "Pemberdayaan Ibu-Ibu PKK Melalui Pembuatan Tote Bag Batik Ecoprint dengan Teknik Pounding di Desa Troso." The program's focus on harnessing local natural resources – specifically the underutilized plants in Troso Village – to foster economic self-sufficiency among PKK mothers is highly relevant and addresses pertinent issues of sustainable development and cultural preservation. The stated objective, to equip participants with skills in making ecoprint batik tote bags using the pounding technique to increase household income, is clear and directly aligned with community needs. This approach thoughtfully combines traditional craft with environmental consciousness, offering a practical pathway for skill development and income generation. The methodology described, primarily employing training and demonstration, appears well-suited for a hands-on skill-building program. The detailed training process, encompassing education, direct demonstrations, independent practice, and design guidance, indicates a comprehensive and participant-centered approach designed to ensure effective knowledge transfer and skill acquisition. The reported results are encouraging, highlighting an improvement in handicraft skills, the successful optimization of local plant resources for ecoprint motifs, and a strengthened awareness regarding the preservation of batik culture and environmental sustainability. These outcomes collectively suggest a positive initial impact on the participants and their community. While the abstract provides a strong overview of the program's design and initial successes, future reporting could benefit from further elaboration on the specific types of plants utilized, the detailed economic impact on household income, and any challenges encountered during implementation. The concluding statement regarding the potential for this initiative to become a sustainable new business opportunity for the women of Troso Village is particularly promising. Overall, this initiative represents a commendable effort in community development, demonstrating how local resources and traditional techniques can be leveraged to create economic opportunities and foster environmental stewardship. The program's practical application and its positive social and environmental outcomes make it a valuable contribution to the field of community empowerment studies.
