Abstract

The Community Service Program (PKM) was implemented in RW 05, Cimareme Village, Ngamprah District, West Bandung, with a focus on waste management and community empowerment. This area has economic, social, and educational potential that can be developed through a cross-disciplinary approach. The main activities include counseling, waste management, campus promotion, and participation in community social activities. The peak of the activity in the form of a Final Workshop emphasized the increase in environmental awareness, active community participation, and positive relations between students and the community. This PKM is expected to be the first step in sustainable collaboration between universities and partner villages.

Review

The submitted abstract outlines a community service program (PKM) focused on establishing source-separated waste management in Cimareme Village, Ngamprah District. The initiative targets a critical environmental and social challenge, leveraging a cross-disciplinary approach to foster community empowerment and environmental awareness. The program’s objective to position source sorting as a "main key" to sustainable waste management is highly relevant and addresses a vital area for local community intervention. While the program's activities, including counseling, practical waste management, and community engagement, are clearly articulated and reflect a positive intent, the abstract lacks the empirical depth typically expected in an academic journal. It primarily describes program implementation and the nature of activities rather than presenting measurable outcomes or robust findings. Claims regarding an "increase in environmental awareness" and "active community participation," while encouraging, are asserted without any indication of how these changes were assessed, quantified, or compared against baseline data. Consequently, the strong claim that source sorting is "the main key" lacks the necessary evidence or theoretical framework within this summary. To strengthen this work for academic publication, future submissions should prioritize a more rigorous methodology for impact assessment. This would entail detailing specific metrics used to evaluate changes in waste sorting behavior, actual waste diversion rates, community knowledge, and participation levels, perhaps through pre- and post-intervention data collection. Including a clear discussion of the theoretical underpinnings guiding the intervention, along with a critical analysis of both the successes and challenges encountered, would significantly enhance its academic contribution, moving beyond a description of activities to a data-driven examination of sustainable waste management strategies.
