UMKM Batik Cahaya Baru di Kabupaten Semarang menghadapi tantangan dalam meningkatkan kualitas dan efisiensi produksi kain batik, khususnya dalam proses pewarnaan kain batik. Pada UMKM ini proses pewarnaannya masih manual sehingga memerlukan waktu yang cukup lama dan tenaga kerja yang intensif. Pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan meningkatkan efisiensi produksi batik di UMKM Batik Cahaya Baru melalui pemanfaatan mesin padder untuk pewarnaan kain. Pengabdian masyarakat ini dilakukan dengan edukasi pemanfatan mesin padder dan pelatihan pengoperasian mesin padder dengan baik. Hasil dari pengabdian ini menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan mesin padder dapat meningkatkan efisiensi waktu produksi sebesar 75% serta efisiensi penggunaan larutan pewarna kain batik sebesar 33,33%. Kegiatan ini menunjukkan urgensi pemanfaatan mesin padder sebagai inovasi yang mampu mempercepat proses produksi, mengurangi pemborosan bahan pewarna dan mendukung keberlanjutan usaha UMKM Batik Cahaya Baru.
This paper presents a compelling and practical study on improving the efficiency of batik production at UMKM Batik Cahaya Baru through the adoption of a padder machine. The identified challenge of time-consuming and labor-intensive manual dyeing processes is highly relevant to many traditional craft sectors. The reported quantitative results – a significant 75% increase in production time efficiency and a 33.33% reduction in dye solution usage – clearly demonstrate the substantial positive impact of this intervention, highlighting the critical role of appropriate technology in modernizing traditional industries. The community engagement methodology, involving direct education and training on the padder machine, is highly commendable and effective for this context. This hands-on approach directly addresses a real-world problem faced by a local UMKM, offering a tangible solution that not only enhances operational efficiency but also contributes to the economic sustainability of the enterprise. The findings provide valuable empirical evidence supporting the integration of technological innovations to overcome production bottlenecks in the batik industry, serving as a promising model for other small and medium enterprises. While the immediate benefits are clearly articulated, future work could further explore the long-term sustainability of this technological adoption, including a comprehensive cost-benefit analysis for UMKM considering similar investments. Investigating the impact on the quality and consistency of the dyed fabrics, beyond just efficiency metrics, would also provide a more holistic understanding of the intervention's overall success. Additionally, a discussion of any challenges faced during implementation or adoption by the artisans, and the scalability of this model to a wider array of batik UMKM, would further strengthen the paper's contribution to practical knowledge in the field.
