The article "Osobliwsza ozdoba konwentu" presents a compelling biographical sketch and analysis of the activities of Just Słowikowski, Prior of the Krakow Dominicans (1643–1689). This study offers a valuable contribution to the understanding of monastic leadership and institutional history in 17th-century Poland. By focusing on a specific individual within a prominent religious order, the author provides insightful detail that enriches our knowledge of a period often characterized by broader political and social upheavals, highlighting the enduring role of religious communities and their leaders. The abstract indicates a comprehensive reconstruction of Słowikowski's monastic career, tracing his journey from a Krakow burgher family to his two terms as prior from 1681–1684 and 1687–1689. A significant aspect of the research is its examination of Słowikowski's foundational activities and his collaboration with benefactors, specifically in relation to the works undertaken under his patronage at the Holy Trinity Church in Krakow. This detailed focus on patronage and material culture within the Dominican convent is particularly noteworthy, promising insights into the economic and artistic dimensions of monastic life during the Baroque era. The methodology appears to combine rigorous biographical narrative with institutional analysis, likely drawing upon extensive primary sources to illuminate the administrative and spiritual life of the convent. Overall, this article promises to be a meticulously researched and highly informative piece. Its strength lies in its micro-historical approach, which allows for a deep dive into the practicalities of monastic administration, the dynamics of patronage, and the individual agency of a key religious figure. The reconstruction of Słowikowski's contributions not only fills a gap in the historiography of the Krakow Dominicans but also offers a detailed case study for broader discussions on the role of religious orders in urban development, artistic patronage, and social networks in early modern Poland. This scholarly work is a significant addition to the field and is highly recommended for publication.
