Abstract

Oláh Mara Omara (1945-2020) az egyik legjelentősebb kortárs magyar roma művész, aki társadalomkritikus műveivel nemzetközi szintéren is széleskörű ismertséget szerzett. Nem szokványos karrierút az övé: takarítónőként dolgozott, amikor negyvenhárom éves korában betegségei és személyes traumák hatására kezdett festeni. Az O. Mara festőművész (1997) című saját kiadású, fotókkal illusztrált önéletírásában pedig — mintegy festményeinek részletes narrációja — életének traumáit, viszontagságait (házasság, gyermekvállalás, válás, költözések), valamint művészeti pályájának főbb állomásait veszi sorra. Saját élettörténetén keresztül a roma nőket, mint többszörösen sérülékeny és diszkriminált csoportot jeleníti meg, akik nem csupán társadalmi előítéletek áldozatai, hanem a hatalom képviselői (orvos, rendőr, tanító) által elkövetett szimbolikus és fizikai erőszak elszenvedői is. Omara élettörténete (annak vizuális és szöveges elbeszélése) fontos kiindulópontként szolgál az alkotásaiban is tetten érhető különböző identitásmetszetek feltárásához és értelmezéséhez. Jelen tanulmány arra vállalkozik, hogy bemutassa, egy roma nőművész esetében hogyan fonódnak össze a különböző egyenlőtlenségek (nem, faj/etnicitás, társadalmi osztályhoz való tartozás, anyaság), valamint az önéletírás és az élettörténet-festmények miként értelmezhetőek a dekolonizáció eszközeként.
