Abstract

This research intends to be a recollection and a tribute to Nina Façon, the illustrious scholar in Italian studies, a Romanian author of exceptional studies on Italian literature and language and an extraordinary translator of some monumental Italian classical works.The illustration of her excellency is demonstrated starting from her first important work, her PhD thesis Michelangelo poeta, elaborated at the age of 29 and published the following year, that is, in 1939. After some personal memories as a student of the distinguished professor in the 60s, the article mentions Façon’s complex intellectual formation (she graduated not only in Italian, but also in history and philosophy) and analyzes her doctoral thesis – a true example of erudition and critical sensibility. Façon sees the common thread of Michelangelo's poetic creation in the need to express in words, stage by stage, his problematic spiritual and existential perspective, which is also found in his prodigious artistic creation. The thesis demonstrates how this thread runs through the philosophical and stylistic core of all Michelangelo's poetry: a fruit of his times, it manages to stand out as a unicum in Italian Renaissance lyric poetry.
