Terhos Forschungsarbeit ist giundlegender Art gewesen, und es ist sein Verdienst, dass man in der finnischen Tierzüchtung schon sehr früh den Formalismus aufgegeben und dem Entwickeln der Produktionsseigenschaften Aufmerksamkeit zugewandt hat. Desgleichen hat Terho ein Tierzüchtungsprogramm aufgestellt, in dem man durch intensive Individuenwahl die Milch- und Fettproduktion sowie die Dauer der Melkperiode, das Bestimmen der erblichen Beschaffenheit der Bullen, bei dem man sich auf die Beurteilung der Nachkommen stütz, zu bessern gesucht hat. Zui Förderung der Pferdezucht hat Terho einen Zugmesser entworfen, der an einem Auto zu befesti gen ist und leicht auf den jeweils erforderlichen Widerstand eingestellt werden kann. Durch Ziehen des Messwagens hat heutzutage jeder Hengst eine bestimmte Forde rungen erfüllende Probe zu bestehen, bevor er in das Stammbuch eingetragen wird. Terhos vielseitige Arbeit zugunsten der finnischen Haustierzüchtung hat ihn zu einem Bahnbiechei gemacht, an den wii uns mit unvergänglicher Dankbarkeit zu erinnern haben.
