Foster tolerance, social cohesion, and religious moderation to counter intolerance.
This study aims to instill the values of multiculturalism based on the Qur'an and the philosophy of Huma Betang in the context of a multicultural Indonesian society. The method used is a literature study, which involves collecting and analyzing data from various written sources, including books, articles, and scientific journals. The results of the study indicate that multiculturalism in Indonesia, which is reflected in the motto "Bhinneka Tunggal Ika," requires recognition and appreciation of differences to create a harmonious society. From an Islamic perspective, the values of tolerance and mutual respect taught in the Qur'an, as well as the local wisdom of Huma Betang, can be the foundation for overcoming intolerance. This study concludes that the integration of these values can strengthen social cohesion and encourage religious moderation, which is important in facing the challenges of intolerance and radicalization in the era of disruption. Instilling the values of multiculturalism based on the Qur'an and the philosophy of Huma Betang is expected to create a more peaceful and tolerant society in Indonesia.
This study addresses a critically important and timely topic: the instillation of multicultural values in the diverse Indonesian society, particularly in an era marked by challenges of intolerance and radicalization. Utilizing a literature review methodology, the authors aim to propose a compelling framework for fostering multiculturalism rooted in two distinct yet complementary sources: the universal teachings of the Qur'an and the indigenous Huma Betang philosophy. The premise of integrating religious scripture with local wisdom presents a potentially robust approach to strengthening social cohesion within Indonesia's "Bhinneka Tunggal Ika" ethos. The abstract effectively highlights the core argument that a synergistic application of Qur'anic principles of tolerance and mutual respect, alongside the values inherent in Huma Betang, can serve as a powerful bulwark against intolerance. The study's focus on these specific foundations is a notable strength, offering a culturally and religiously resonant path towards promoting religious moderation. The findings, as summarized, indicate that such an integration is not merely theoretical but promises concrete outcomes in enhancing societal harmony and equipping communities to navigate the complexities of modern disruption. While the abstract convincingly outlines the conceptual framework and its potential benefits, a full paper stemming from this work would benefit from a deeper exploration of the practical mechanisms through which these values can be effectively instilled in various societal contexts. Further discussion on potential challenges or complexities in implementing such a dual-foundation approach, and how these might be overcome, would also enrich the contribution. Nevertheless, this study lays important groundwork, offering a promising intellectual contribution to the discourse on multiculturalism, particularly in its unique contextualization within the Indonesian archipelago.
