Review

This study meticulously examines the critical relationship between community knowledge, attitudes, and the pervasive stigma surrounding people living with HIV (PLHIV) in a specific neighborhood in Tolitoli, Indonesia. The abstract effectively presents a compelling case for the research, starting with a powerful anecdotal observation that immediately highlights the issue's gravity. Utilizing a quantitative, cross-sectional design, the research robustly concludes that both knowledge and attitudes are significantly associated with the level of stigma exhibited by the community. This finding is particularly important, as it confirms that even with seemingly sufficient knowledge and good attitudes, high levels of stigma can persist, suggesting a complex interplay of factors that public health initiatives must address. The methodological approach, while generally sound for a quantitative study, presents a few areas for clarification that would enhance its overall strength. The abstract clearly states the use of purposive sampling, selecting 59 respondents from a population of 112. A detailed explanation of the specific criteria for this purposive selection would be beneficial in the full manuscript to understand potential biases and the representativeness of the sample. Furthermore, while the study indicates "sufficient" knowledge and "good" attitudes among respondents, details regarding the specific instruments or scales used to measure knowledge, attitude, and stigma—including their validity and reliability—are crucial for a thorough evaluation of the findings. Providing this context would solidify the methodological rigor and allow for better interpretation of the results. Despite these minor points, the practical implications derived from this research are highly significant and directly actionable, particularly for local health agencies like Puskesmas Kota Tolitoli. The recommendation to expand and diversify HIV socialization efforts, including leveraging social media, is a timely and strategic suggestion that aligns with modern public health communication strategies. This research serves as a strong local evidence base, highlighting the urgent need for targeted, multi-faceted interventions that go beyond mere information dissemination to actively challenge and reshape stigmatizing attitudes. Future studies could build upon this by evaluating the effectiveness of such interventions or exploring qualitative dimensions to uncover deeper cultural and social roots of stigma, thus contributing further to global efforts to create more inclusive environments for PLHIV.
