Abstract

The use of the Inlislite application at the East Java Provincial Library and Archives Service since 2010 has improved efficiency in cataloguing. With 11 staff managing the system, errors are rare. However, the main challenge is data security and the need for competent IT personnel. On average, cataloguers can input 5-10 book titles per day, although OPAC updates are still done manually. The availability of tools for data backup shows concern for the protection of important information. In addition, training for new staff helps improve understanding and quality of data management. Overall, Inlislite provides great benefits, but there are still challenges that need to be overcome to optimise the use of the system.

Review

This paper, titled "Efektivitas Penerapan Aplikasi Inlislite dalam Menunjang Kegiatan Katalogisasi di Dinas Perpustakaan dan Kearsipan Provinsi Jawa Timur," investigates the efficacy of the Inlislite application in supporting cataloguing operations. The abstract effectively highlights several positive aspects of the application's implementation since 2010, particularly its contribution to improved efficiency and a reduction in cataloguing errors, managed by a dedicated team of 11 staff. The provision of data backup tools and ongoing training for new personnel further underscore a commitment to data integrity and quality control, suggesting a well-structured approach to system management within the East Java Provincial Library and Archives Service. However, the abstract also transparently identifies significant challenges that temper the overall positive assessment. Foremost among these are concerns regarding data security and the critical need for competent IT personnel to manage the system effectively. The manual nature of OPAC updates, despite the digital cataloguing process, represents a notable inefficiency that detracts from the system's full potential for automation. While the average input rate of 5-10 book titles per day is mentioned, its significance or comparative efficiency is not fully contextualized, leaving room for a deeper analysis of productivity metrics. In light of these points, while the Inlislite application clearly provides substantial benefits, the paper's findings indicate areas ripe for further investigation and strategic intervention. Future research or system improvements should specifically address the identified data security vulnerabilities and the imperative for enhanced IT expertise. A detailed analysis of the impact of manual OPAC updates on user access and information dissemination, alongside potential solutions for automation, would also greatly strengthen the system's effectiveness. Overall, this work provides a valuable preliminary assessment but necessitates a more granular exploration of the challenges to fully optimize the Inlislite application's utility.
