This paper addresses a critically important and often subtle aspect of healthcare: the profound influence of social class on doctor-patient interactions. By employing George Herbert Mead's Symbolic Interactionism, the research provides a robust theoretical framework for understanding the relational dynamics beyond purely medical considerations. The study's focus on a specific demographic—university students at UNNES—offers a valuable lens into how social structures manifest within a relatively homogenous yet class-diversified group, highlighting the pervasive nature of power dynamics and social constructions in healthcare encounters that impact communication quality and medical decision-making. Utilizing a qualitative research methodology, the study aims to capture a comprehensive, factual, and accurate depiction of these complex interactions. The methods of data collection, primarily interviews complemented by a literature review, are suitable for exploring the subjective experiences and symbolic meanings inherent in doctor-patient relationships. The findings are compelling and reveal significant disparities: students from different social class backgrounds experience varying qualities of interaction, particularly concerning communication, interpersonal attitudes, and the clarity of medical information provided. Importantly, the research indicates that patient social identity directly influences the symbolic actions exhibited by doctors, with upper-middle-class students generally receiving more favorable and amicable service compared to their lower-class counterparts who reported less satisfying experiences. The primary strength of this research lies in its empirical demonstration of how perceived social class shapes the 'symbolic actions' of doctors, thereby directly impacting the perceived quality of care and patient satisfaction. This provides crucial insights for medical education, ethics, and policy aimed at cultivating more equitable healthcare environments. To further strengthen the work, future iterations could benefit from a more detailed account of the methodological application, such as the specific criteria for participant selection, the number and demographics of interviewees, and the explicit analytical framework employed to interpret symbolic interactions within the qualitative data. Clarifying the precise role of the "literature review" as a data collection method, beyond providing contextual background, would also enhance methodological transparency. Nonetheless, this study makes a significant contribution to the fields of medical sociology and health communication, laying a strong foundation for understanding and addressing social class-based disparities in healthcare interactions.
