Dialektika nasakh-mansukh: perspektif tradisional jalaluddin as-suyuthi versus hermeneutik-modern muhammad syahrur.
The article, "DIALEKTIKA NASAKH-MANSUKH: PERSPEKTIF TRADISIONAL JALALUDDIN AS-SUYUTHI VERSUS HERMENEUTIK-MODERN MUHAMMAD SYAHRUR," offers a crucial comparative analysis of the concept of *nasakh-mansukh* (abrogation) within Islamic legal and hermeneutical traditions. Employing a qualitative-comparative methodology grounded in a comprehensive literature review, the research meticulously examines the epistemological underpinnings of two influential scholars: Jalaluddin As-Suyuthi, representing a traditional interpretive framework, and Muhammad Syahrur, who champions a modern hermeneutic. The primary objective is to elucidate their distinct approaches to understanding the mechanisms of *nasakh* in the Qur'an and the broader implications for Islamic jurisprudence. The study's findings reveal a fundamental divergence in their interpretive stances. Syahrur's approach is characterized as revolutionary, as he outright rejects the concept of internal *nasakh*, instead advocating for a contextual hermeneutic that asserts the continuous and enduring relevance of all Qur'anic verses throughout time. In contrast, As-Suyuthi adheres to a more classical methodology, accepting *nasakh* as a valid mechanism of divine legislation, but with stringent limitations; he categorizes *nasakh* into three types and significantly restricts the number of *mansukh* (abrogated) verses to around 20. Despite these profound methodological differences, the research sagaciously identifies a shared ultimate aim: both scholars are driven by a commitment to maintaining the coherence and perpetual relevance of the Qur'an, thereby illustrating the intricate intellectual dynamism within Islamic thought. This comparative investigation provides significant contributions to the ongoing discourse on Islamic hermeneutics and the interpretation of sacred texts. The article concludes that the comprehension of religious scripture is an incessant intellectual process, demanding a thoughtful equilibrium between modern contextual understanding and the preservation of original meanings. By effectively showcasing the "productive tension" between established tradition and contemporary renewal in Islamic studies, this research not only illuminates the distinct interpretive pathways of As-Suyuthi and Syahrur but also reaffirms the intellectual vitality required to engage with foundational religious concepts across diverse historical and intellectual landscapes.
