Change laboratory in brazil: origins, development, and dissemination. Discover the Change Laboratory method's trajectory in Brazil, from its origins to wide dissemination since 2011. Learn about 40+ interventions in education, health, agriculture, and key adoption & cooperation processes.
This article aims to present the trajectory and development of the formative intervention method of the Change Laboratory in Brazil. To this end, a narrative is constructed that articulates the author’s direct experience with a systematic review of publications available on the Google Scholar platform. The first publications on the method date from 2011 and 2012, followed by training courses, technical visits and exchanges. After an initial "gestation" period, the first interventions were implemented in 2014. Since then, at least 40 interventions have been carried out in the country, with a predominance in the areas of education, health, agriculture and occupational health surveillance. The analysis of the dissemination of the method among different research groups indicates that its adoption requires at least three key processes: formation, establishment of collaborative networks and creation of a local support group. It is concluded that, in view of the theoretical-methodological complexity of the Change Laboratory, it is essential to strengthen forms of inter- and intra-group research cooperation.
This article provides a valuable and much-needed historical and developmental account of the Change Laboratory (CL) methodology within the Brazilian context. By meticulously tracing its trajectory from initial publications and training courses in the early 2010s to the implementation of at least 40 interventions across diverse sectors such as education, health, agriculture, and occupational health surveillance, the paper offers a comprehensive overview of CL's establishment in the country. The identification of formation, collaborative networks, and local support groups as key drivers for dissemination is a significant contribution, shedding light on the practical requirements for embedding complex formative interventions in new cultural and institutional environments. The methodology, which strategically combines the author’s direct experience with a systematic review of publications on Google Scholar, offers a unique blend of insider perspective and academic rigor. The author's personal involvement provides an authentic and rich narrative of the "gestation" period and subsequent development, offering insights that a purely quantitative review might miss. While the reliance on Google Scholar might present some limitations in terms of full comprehensiveness across all potential academic databases, it nevertheless captures a significant portion of the publicly available literature relevant to the method's adoption and dissemination in Brazil, aligning well with the practical, applied nature of the CL itself. In conclusion, this article serves as an excellent foundational piece for understanding the spread and adaptation of the Change Laboratory in Brazil. It effectively articulates the inherent theoretical-methodological complexity of CL and rightly underscores the critical importance of robust inter- and intra-group research cooperation for its sustained development. While the paper outlines the *what* and *how* of dissemination, future work could perhaps delve deeper into the *qualitative outcomes* and *specific challenges encountered* during the numerous interventions, enriching the understanding of CL's practical impact. Nonetheless, this review offers a compelling argument for strategic collaboration and provides essential guidance for researchers and practitioners looking to implement sophisticated intervention methodologies in dynamic contexts.
