Abstract

STUDIES ON ARMENIAN ANTHROPONYMS IN POLANDThe history of studies on Armenian anthroponyms in Poland dates back to the mid 1880s, when the works of Jan Hanusz (1858-1887), one of the precursors of Polish onomastics, were published. Subsequent linguists conducting this research in the 20th and 21st centuries include: Eugeniusz Słuszkiewicz (1901-1991), Mieczysław Buczyński (1936-1992), Andrzej Pisowicz (born 1940), Stanisław Stachowski (1930-2021), Łukasz Trzeciak (born 1984). The article presents selected works of Polish researchers devoted to the personal onomastics of Polish Armenians.

Review

The paper, titled "Studies on Armenian anthroponymy in Poland," clearly outlines its focus on a specific and historically rich area of onomastic research. The abstract effectively conveys the scope of the article, which appears to be a valuable bibliographical and historical overview of the academic work dedicated to Armenian personal names within the Polish linguistic landscape. By tracing the lineage of this research from the late 19th century through to contemporary scholars, the article positions itself as an essential reference point for understanding the evolution of this specialized field. One of the key strengths of this contribution lies in its synthesis of decades of scholarship, bringing together the efforts of pioneering figures like Jan Hanusz with those of more recent researchers such as Łukasz Trzeciak. This comprehensive listing of prominent linguists – including Eugeniusz Słuszkiewicz, Mieczysław Buczyński, Andrzej Pisowicz, and Stanisław Stachowski – provides an invaluable roadmap for anyone seeking to delve into Armenian anthroponymic studies in Poland. Such a compilation is particularly useful for new researchers entering the field, offering a foundational understanding of the major contributions and the chronological development of the discipline. The article thus serves as a critical historiographical piece, documenting and appreciating the intellectual legacy in this niche area. While the abstract promises a presentation of "selected works," a potential enhancement for the full article would be to move beyond mere listing and offer a more analytical perspective. For instance, future iterations could categorize these works by methodology, thematic focus (e.g., etymological, sociological, historical changes), or specific findings that significantly advanced the field. A discussion of the common challenges encountered by these researchers, the evolution of theoretical frameworks applied, or the main conclusions drawn by the listed scholars would further enrich the review. This would transform it from a valuable directory into a more profoundly analytical and critically engaging exploration of the research landscape.
