Review

This study presents a timely analysis of ChatGPT usage trends in Indonesia, leveraging Google Trends data to gauge public interest and compare it against Google's search popularity. The research aims to map the adoption of AI technology within the Indonesian context, providing a descriptive quantitative overview of the rising search index for ChatGPT. The abstract highlights a significant increase in ChatGPT's popularity, especially noting instances where it surpassed Google in computer science-related searches, ultimately interpreting this as a shift towards AI-based digital interaction, with implications for policy and digital education. The paper's strength lies in its focus on a highly relevant and rapidly evolving technological phenomenon. Understanding the trajectory of AI tool adoption, particularly in a large and diverse nation like Indonesia, is crucial for policymakers, educators, and technology developers. The use of Google Trends is a pragmatic approach to capture public curiosity and initial engagement with new technologies, offering broad strokes of interest over time. The reported findings, such as the substantial increase in ChatGPT's search index and its occasional outperformance of Google, offer compelling evidence of AI's growing footprint and its potential to reshape digital search behaviors. However, a significant methodological ambiguity needs clarification. The stated data period, "Juni 2023 hingga Mei 2025," raises questions, as Google Trends typically provides historical data. Without explicit mention of a forecasting or predictive modeling approach, it is unclear how data extending into May 2025 could be included in the analysis, potentially affecting the validity of the reported trends and peak forecasts. While Google Trends indicates interest, it does not directly measure the depth or quality of usage, which limits the interpretation of "usage trends." Future research would greatly benefit from incorporating complementary methodologies, such as user surveys or qualitative interviews, to delve deeper into the *why* and *how* of ChatGPT adoption, thereby providing a more comprehensive understanding of user behavior and actual impact.
