Explores "marriage is scary" on TikTok by examining "Mithaqan Ghalizan" (sacred covenant from Qur'an). Offers a spiritual perspective to help the younger generation overcome marriage fear, fostering a meaningful journey & new marriage education approach.
The ‘marriage is scary’ phenomenon that went viral on the TikTok platform reflects the younger generation's apprehension towards the institution of marriage, which is often associated with great responsibility, uncertainty and potential failure. This study explores the spiritual significance of the concept of mi>tha>qan gha>liz}an a term in the Qur'an that refers to a strong covenant in the context of marriage as a response to this narrative of fear. Using a qualitative approach based on literature review and content analysis, this study examines the relevance of spiritual values in dealing with the crisis of perception towards marriage. The results of the exploration show that mi>tha>qan gha>liz}an offers a holistic perspective on marriage as a commitment that is not only contractual but also sacred, rooted in moral, spiritual and social responsibilities. A deep understanding of this concept can be a solution to reduce the fear of marriage, as well as inspire the younger generation to view marriage as a meaningful spiritual journey. This research makes an important contribution in formulating a new approach to marriage education, especially in a digital era filled with negative narratives about the institution of family.
This paper addresses a highly pertinent and contemporary issue: the "marriage is scary" phenomenon gaining traction among the younger generation on TikTok. By identifying the underlying anxieties such as responsibility, uncertainty, and potential failure, the authors skillfully introduce the spiritual concept of *mi>tha>qan gha>liz}an* from the Qur'an as a profound counter-narrative. The study's aim to explore the spiritual significance of this strong covenant in the context of marriage, utilizing a qualitative approach based on literature review and content analysis, is commendable for its attempt to bridge traditional spiritual wisdom with modern social challenges. Overall, the research presents a timely and relevant response to a growing societal concern regarding perceptions of marital commitment. A significant strength of this research lies in its innovative approach to examining a contemporary digital trend through the lens of spiritual values. The exploration of *mi>tha>qan gha>liz}an* effectively offers a holistic perspective, repositioning marriage not merely as a contractual agreement but as a sacred commitment imbued with moral, spiritual, and social responsibilities. This multifaceted understanding is crucial for inspiring a more profound appreciation of marriage beyond its perceived difficulties. Furthermore, the paper's ambition to contribute to a new approach to marriage education, particularly in an era saturated with negative digital narratives about family institutions, highlights its practical relevance and potential for real-world impact. The attempt to reframe marriage as a "meaningful spiritual journey" provides a refreshing and constructive perspective. While the abstract outlines a compelling framework, a deeper elaboration on the specific content analyzed from TikTok and the detailed methodology of its content analysis would enhance the study's clarity. Understanding precisely how the "marriage is scary" narratives are characterized and subsequently addressed by specific tenets of *mi>tha>qan gha>liz}an* would strengthen the causal link presented. Additionally, while the paper proposes that a deep understanding of this concept "can be a solution to reduce the fear," the mechanisms through which this spiritual insight translates into a reduction of fear for the younger generation could be further explored. Future research might consider empirical studies or intervention designs to test the effectiveness of this proposed new approach to marriage education in practice, thereby validating its transformative potential beyond theoretical exploration.
