Normal delivery care is a form of midwifery care that prioritizes cleanliness and safety throughout all stages of labor, from the first to the fourth stage. Maternal and neonatal mortality rates are important indicators in assessing the quality of delivery services, particularly by midwives. This study aims to determine the relationship between midwives' knowledge and attitudes with their compliance in implementing normal delivery care standards for mothers giving birth at the Pattingalloang Community Health Center, Makassar, in 2024. This study used an analytical design with an observational cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of all 15 midwives working at the community health center. Data were collected using questionnaires and standard operating procedures for normal delivery care, then analyzed using the chi-square test. The analysis results showed no significant relationship between knowledge (p=0.371) and attitudes (p=0.57) with the level of compliance in implementing normal delivery care. Need for other strategies to improve the quality of delivery services, one of which is through more intensive education such as counseling and classes for pregnant women. In addition, it is important for pregnant women to actively seek information from trusted sources, including social media, to broaden their understanding of health.
The submitted manuscript, "Analisis Pengetahuan Dan Sikap Terhadap Kepatuhan Bidan Dalam Melaksanakan Standar Asuhan Persalinan Normal Pada Pasien Inpartu," addresses a critical area of public health: the quality of normal delivery care provided by midwives, a key factor influencing maternal and neonatal mortality. The study's objective was to investigate the relationship between midwives' knowledge and attitudes and their compliance with normal delivery care standards at a specific community health center in Makassar. Employing an analytical cross-sectional design, the research provides insights into a local context, utilizing questionnaires and standard operating procedures to assess variables. The topic is undoubtedly relevant, given the continuous global efforts to improve maternal and child health outcomes. While the study tackles an important subject, several methodological concerns warrant consideration. A primary limitation is the remarkably small sample size of 15 midwives. For an analytical study aiming to find relationships using a chi-square test, such a small 'n' significantly compromises the statistical power and the generalizability of the findings. The reported non-significant relationships between knowledge (p=0.371) and attitudes (p=0.57) and compliance might, therefore, be a result of this underpowered sample rather than a true absence of a relationship. Furthermore, the abstract doesn't fully detail how "compliance" was measured using SOPs – whether through direct observation, self-reporting, or review of records – which is crucial for interpreting the validity of this outcome variable. The absence of a relationship, if robust, also begs further exploration into *what other factors* might drive compliance if knowledge and attitudes are not key predictors. Given the non-significant findings, the conclusions and recommendations require careful re-evaluation. While the abstract suggests a need for "other strategies to improve the quality of delivery services," such as counseling and classes for pregnant women, and encouraging pregnant women to seek information, these recommendations seem to pivot away from the study's primary focus on *midwives' compliance*. The study specifically investigated midwives' knowledge and attitudes as predictors of their compliance; therefore, the recommendations should logically address the implications of *these* findings for *midwives*. Future research would benefit from a significantly larger and more diverse sample to enhance statistical power and generalizability. Exploring other potential determinants of compliance, such as organizational factors, workload, access to resources, or supervisory practices, would also provide a more comprehensive understanding of midwives' adherence to normal delivery care standards, especially in contexts where knowledge and attitudes might not be the primary drivers.
