Gantang merupakan alat ukur tidak baku yang mencerminkan intelektualitas masyarakat melayu. Hal ini terlihat dari fungsinya sebagai pengukur massa, salah satu aspek penting dalam Matematika. Dengan pengetahuan seputar Gantang, Pendidikan Matematika Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan Universitas Maritim Raja Ali Haji menerbitkan Jurnal dengan nama dari alat ukur massa masyarakat melayu tersebut. Jurnal Gantang memuat artikel hasil penelitian maupun kajian literatur dalam bidang Pendidikan Matematika dan Matematika.
