Abstract

This outreach program aims to increase the understanding and awareness of miners in South Tanoyan Village regarding mining zakat obligations. This counseling will involve local religious figures and zakat experts from academic circles at IAIN Sultan Amai Gorontalo, with material covering the definition of zakat, mandatory zakat requirements, types of zakat, and how to calculate mining zakat. Through this outreach, it is hoped that miners can pay zakat correctly and contribute to improving the welfare of the local community. This counseling is carried out using lecture, discussion and simulation methods. After counseling, a final survey was conducted to evaluate the increase in participants' understanding. The survey results show a significant increase in their understanding of mining zakat.

Review

This paper outlines an important outreach program designed to enhance understanding and awareness of *Zakat Barang Tambang* (mining zakat) among miners in South Tanoyan Village. The title, "Tak Ada Istilah 'Uang Panas' Hanya Berkah atau Tidak," provocatively frames the core message: that earnings from mining, when purified through zakat, are legitimate and blessed, countering any notion of them being 'hot money.' This initiative addresses a critical, often overlooked, area within Islamic finance and community development, particularly in resource-rich regions. The involvement of both local religious figures and academic zakat experts from IAIN Sultan Amai Gorontalo adds substantial weight and credibility, promising a comprehensive and contextually relevant educational experience. The program's ultimate aim to foster correct zakat payment and contribute to local community welfare is highly commendable and demonstrates a practical application of Islamic principles. The methodology described for this outreach program appears well-structured, employing lectures, discussions, and simulation methods to cover essential topics such as the definition, requirements, types, and specific calculation methods for mining zakat. This multi-faceted approach is likely effective in catering to various learning styles and promoting active engagement among participants. The abstract indicates that a final survey was conducted to evaluate the program's impact, reporting a "significant increase" in participants' understanding of mining zakat. While this finding is encouraging and points to the immediate success of the knowledge transfer, the review would benefit from more granular details regarding the survey's design, the specific metrics used, and the quantitative data supporting this "significant increase." Such details would strengthen the claims of efficacy. Looking ahead, while the program successfully boosted understanding, the abstract hints at opportunities for further research and impact assessment. It would be beneficial to track whether this increased understanding translates into actual behavioral change, specifically sustained and correct payment of mining zakat over time. Furthermore, a detailed follow-up on how these zakat contributions tangibly improve the welfare of the local community, as aspired, would provide crucial evidence of the program's long-term societal benefits. Exploring the scalability and adaptability of this successful model to other mining regions or similar resource-extraction contexts could also offer valuable insights for broader application, contributing significantly to both Islamic economics and sustainable community development practices.
