Review

The paper, "Z materiałów źródłowych do dziejów Ormian w zasobie Archiwum Państwowego w Przemyślu: akta miejskie i sądowe," presents a valuable overview of primary source materials relevant to the history of Armenians in the State Archive in Przemyśl. By focusing on city and court records from the 16th and 17th centuries, the author highlights an important, yet potentially underutilized, body of evidence for understanding Armenian cultural, legal, and social life in historical Poland. This work is significant for scholars seeking to delve into the everyday existence and administrative interactions of these communities, offering a foundational guide for further in-depth research. A key strength of this contribution lies in its precise identification of specific archival collections and even particular documents. The abstract clearly points to the valuable mentions found within the records of the city of Przemyśl (Archive Set No. 129) and the city of Jarosław (Archive Set No. 132). Particularly noteworthy is the emphasis on Archive Set No. 143, which pertains to the Greek Catholic Chapter in Przemyśl, and the specific reference to a court record of the Armenian law of Saint John jurydyka dating from 1600-1605 (ref. no 490). Such granular detail is exceptionally useful for researchers, providing concrete starting points for archival exploration and potentially saving considerable time in locating relevant documentation. While the abstract effectively establishes the existence and location of these critical sources, a comprehensive paper would ideally expand on the nature and content of the "mentions," perhaps offering illustrative examples of the types of information these records contain about Armenian daily life, legal disputes, or economic activities. Nevertheless, this work serves as an indispensable bibliographic and archival guide, making a crucial contribution to the historiography of Armenians in Eastern Europe by bringing these vital, yet potentially obscure, resources to broader scholarly attention. It lays essential groundwork for future analytical studies and encourages deeper engagement with the rich historical tapestry preserved within the Przemyśl archives.
