Abstract

The topic of the role of women has always been an ongoing discussion. When viewed from a global perspective, the Indonesian women's movement is one of the movements that occur in many other countries. Since before independence until today, the Indonesian women's movement has a long history. Women as domestic workers and their role in the public sphere continue to be debated and discussed everywhere. One of them is related to the women's movement. The main goal of movements founded by women activists is to improve the status of women. At some point in history, Indonesian female figures have contributed to women's struggle for social justice and humanity. This shows that Indonesian women really laid the foundation of the women's movement.

Review

The paper, "Women in the Feminist Struggle During the Pre-Independence Period," proposes to explore a significant and timely topic: the historical contributions of Indonesian women to the feminist struggle. The abstract indicates a broad interest in the long history of the Indonesian women's movement, situating it within global women's movements and highlighting the enduring debate surrounding women's roles in both domestic and public spheres. This historical focus on the pre-independence era promises valuable insights into the foundations of women's activism and their fight for social justice and humanity, suggesting a commitment to recognizing pioneering efforts. A key strength of this work lies in its dedication to tracing the origins and development of the Indonesian women's movement from an early, foundational period. By focusing on the pre-independence era, the paper has the potential to shed light on specific historical figures and organizations whose contributions may be underrepresented in broader narratives. The abstract effectively conveys the importance of this historical struggle, emphasizing that Indonesian women "really laid the foundation" for subsequent movements. This focus on foundational figures and their drive to improve women's status and achieve social justice is crucial for understanding the trajectory of feminist movements in Indonesia. While the abstract introduces a compelling subject, it currently lacks the specificity required to fully assess the paper's depth and methodological rigor. It would benefit from clearly outlining the specific historical scope within the "pre-independence period," the primary sources or historical archives to be consulted, and the theoretical framework guiding the analysis of "feminist struggle." The abstract broadly mentions "female figures" and "movements founded by women activists" but would be strengthened by hinting at some concrete examples or the types of struggles examined (e.g., education, suffrage, anti-colonialism). Furthermore, while acknowledging the "ongoing discussion" of women's roles, a clearer articulation of the paper's central argument or intervention within this discussion would enhance its scholarly contribution.
