Abstract

Kata kunci: argot, stand up comedy, komunitas

Review

This study, "Variasi Argot di Komunitas Stand Up Comedy Indonesia," presents a timely and relevant exploration into the unique linguistic landscape of the Indonesian stand-up comedy community. The research effectively aims to identify and classify argot variations based on their morphological form and linguistic origin, a crucial step in understanding language dynamics within specific subcultures. Utilizing data from social media platforms, the study employs a descriptive qualitative approach to reveal significant patterns, most notably the strong presence of English-derived argot. This initial finding immediately highlights the global influences shaping local linguistic practices and offers valuable insights into sociolinguistics and cultural studies. A significant strength of this research lies in its systematic categorization of argot forms. The findings provide a detailed breakdown, showing a clear dominance of English basic words (20 items) over Indonesian basic words (8 items), alongside a notable number of English phrases (21 items). The inclusion of derived words and mixed forms further enriches the analysis, pointing to complex processes of linguistic borrowing and adaptation. The conclusion that English lexicon dominates due to the genre's American origins is well-supported by the data. Moreover, the emergence of local and mixed argot forms is particularly insightful, suggesting a dynamic interplay of global influences and local linguistic creativity, leading to fascinating instances of language hybridity within this urban popular culture. While the study successfully identifies and classifies argot, future research could potentially delve deeper into the *why* and *how* of argot usage, exploring the specific social functions and semantic nuances of these terms within the community. For instance, an ethnographic component examining speaker intent, audience reception, or the role of argot in identity formation and in-group cohesion could provide richer contextual understanding beyond morphological and etymological classifications. Nevertheless, this paper serves as a solid foundational work, providing a comprehensive overview of argot variations in the Indonesian Stand Up Comedy community. Its findings significantly contribute to our understanding of language adaptation, cultural borrowing, and linguistic innovation within contemporary Indonesian popular culture, making it a valuable addition to the field.
