Abstract

The rapid economic development and increasing energy consumption have posed significant challenges to global environmental and social sustainability. The dominance of fossil energy has led to an increase in carbon emissions, making the transition to a green economy and the use of renewable energy critical solutions for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 7 on affordable and clean energy. This study analyses green economy policies in achieving SDGs through the renewable energy sector using the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method. Based on 12 articles analysed, the main findings show that green economy policies, through the development of renewable energy and green finance, positively impact sustainable economic growth and carbon emission reduction in various countries. Furthermore, the increase in renewable energy consumption has also been shown to support the reduction of social inequalities and improve welfare. This study provides strategic recommendations for Indonesia to strengthen green economy policies, particularly in the renewable energy sector, to achieve more optimal SDGs.

Review

This systematic literature review addresses a highly pertinent and critical topic: the role of green economy policies and the renewable energy sector in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The abstract clearly articulates the pressing challenges posed by rapid economic development and fossil fuel dependence, making the transition to a green economy an imperative. The study aims to comprehensively analyze green economy policies, particularly SDG 7 on affordable and clean energy, through the lens of renewable energy, utilizing a systematic literature review (SLR) methodology to synthesize existing scholarship. The chosen SLR method, while based on a focused set of 12 articles, provides a structured approach to synthesize existing knowledge on this complex interrelationship. The findings highlight significant positive impacts of green economy policies, especially through renewable energy development and green finance, on both sustainable economic growth and the crucial objective of carbon emission reduction across various countries. Furthermore, the review commendably identifies a broader societal benefit, noting that increased renewable energy consumption contributes to reduced social inequalities and improved welfare, thereby extending its relevance beyond purely environmental and economic metrics. While the review offers valuable insights, the relatively small number of analyzed articles (12) might suggest a focused scope or potentially a limitation in the breadth of the literature base synthesized, which could be an area for future exploration with a wider search strategy. Nevertheless, the study successfully distills key policy implications, culminating in strategic recommendations specifically for Indonesia to bolster its green economy initiatives in the renewable energy sector. This localized recommendation demonstrates a practical application of the findings, providing a clear pathway for policymakers to enhance their efforts towards achieving optimal SDGs, making this a timely and relevant contribution to the literature.
