Abstract

Il panorama del fumetto italiano del secolo scorso offre numerosi esempi di opere fortemente connotate in senso transculturale, come la serie Gli scorpioni del deserto (1969-1992) e L’uomo della Somalia (1979), in cui Hugo Pratt affronta il tema del rapporto dell’uomo occidentale con le culture che hanno subito la dominazione coloniale, mettendo in discussione la "rappresentabilità" dell’Altro dalla sua prospettiva di apolide, una prospettiva che troverà la propria sublimazione nella figura del pirata romantico Corto Maltese. Anche Sergio Toppi, altra figura chiave del fumetto italiano del Novecento, affronta il tema del colonialismo in opere quali Warramunga 1856 e M'Felewzi (1985), fumetti in cui la rappresentazione dell’umanità in tutte le sue forme e attraverso tutte le sue storie viene proposta come il vero punto d’approdo della ricerca artistica dell’autore. A partire dall’analisi dell’opera di Pratt e Toppi, la presente proposta intende esaminare alcune delle modalità attraverso cui il linguaggio del fumetto rappresenta e veicola, a livello figurativo, compositivo e testuale, immagini specifiche dell’Altro e dell’alterità, nel tentativo di individuare una autentica traiettoria transculturale nella storia del fumetto italiano del Novecento.
