Abstract

Rapid population growth in urban areas affects various aspects of life, including population mobility and changes in socio-economic activities. One of the negative impacts resulting from these changes is the increase in noise levels, which becomes a significant source of sound pollution in urban environments. This study aims to identify the traffic noise levels generated by activities at Pasar Lasoani, Palu City, and analyze the factors influencing them, such as vehicle volume and vehicle speed. The methods used in this study include noise measurement, traffic volume analysis, vehicle speed measurement, and multiple linear regression analysis. The results show that the noise levels at Pasar Lasoani on Saturday exceeded the environmental quality standards, with noise levels at monitoring points reaching 74 dB. On Monday, when there was no market activity, the noise levels were lower. Vehicle volume and speed were found to have a significant impact on noise levels, with vehicle volume having a positive effect and vehicle speed having a negative effect on noise levels. The multiple linear regression analysis indicated that vehicle volume (X1) and vehicle speed (X2) significantly influence noise levels simultaneously. Noise distribution mapping using Surfer 11 software showed variations in noise levels at different points in the Pasar Lasoani area, with the highest noise levels occurring on Saturday. This study provides a clear understanding of the factors influencing noise levels and noise distribution in crowded market areas, as well as the contribution of economic activities to urban environmental quality.

Review

This study, "TINGKAT KEBISINGAN AKIBAT AKTIVITAS LALU LINTAS YANG BERADA DI KAWASAN PASAR LASOANI KOTA PALU," effectively investigates a critical aspect of urban environmental quality: noise pollution stemming from traffic activities in a vibrant market area. The paper successfully identifies and quantifies traffic noise levels at Pasar Lasoani, Palu City, demonstrating that noise levels, particularly on market days like Saturday, significantly exceed environmental quality standards, reaching alarming levels of 74 dB. This research provides a timely and relevant contribution by clearly linking rapid urban growth and increased socio-economic activities to tangible environmental degradation, underscoring the urgent need for attention to acoustic comfort in urban planning. The methodology employed in this study is comprehensive and well-suited to the research objectives. The integration of noise measurement, traffic volume analysis, vehicle speed measurement, and multiple linear regression analysis allows for a robust examination of the influencing factors. The use of Surfer 11 software for noise distribution mapping is a commendable approach, offering clear visual insights into the spatial variation of noise levels across the market area. The analytical results effectively highlight vehicle volume and vehicle speed as significant determinants of noise, with vehicle volume positively correlated and vehicle speed negatively correlated with noise levels, findings that are crucial for understanding complex urban acoustic environments. This study provides valuable practical implications by offering a clear understanding of noise level dynamics in crowded market areas and the environmental contribution of economic activities. The findings directly point to an urgent need for regulatory enforcement and potential noise mitigation strategies in Palu City. For future research, it would be beneficial to delve deeper into the specific health impacts of such elevated noise levels on market vendors and residents, explore the contribution of different vehicle types to overall noise, and investigate the effectiveness of various noise control measures. Further elucidation on the mechanism behind the negative correlation between vehicle speed and noise, perhaps considering stop-and-go traffic versus free-flowing conditions, could also add greater depth to the analysis.
