Abstract

The advancement of digital technology has significantly transformed the landscape of education, including the teaching and learning of Islamic Religious Education (PAI). Digital innovations, particularly through the utilization of various media and technological platforms, offer strategic opportunities to enhance religious literacy among school students. This study aims to examine the role of digital innovation in improving the effectiveness of PAI learning, as well as to explore the challenges and potential solutions in its implementation. Employing a library research method with a qualitative descriptive approach, this article reveals that the use of digital tools—such as interactive learning applications and educational social media—can enrich teaching methods, increase student engagement, and strengthen understanding of Islamic values. However, issues such as unequal access to technology, low digital literacy, and digital distractions remain critical obstacles that require comprehensive solutions. Therefore, collaboration among educators, schools, policymakers, and parents is essential to develop an adaptive and character-oriented digital learning environment. This study recommends the development of holistic and contextual digital-based Islamic education policies and learning models.

Review

The paper addresses a highly relevant and timely topic: the integration of digital innovation into Islamic Religious Education (PAI) to foster religious literacy among students. It correctly identifies the transformative potential of digital technology in this domain, aiming to explore its role in enhancing learning effectiveness and outlining associated challenges and potential solutions. Utilizing a library research method with a qualitative descriptive approach, the study effectively highlights how various digital tools, such as interactive applications and educational social media, can significantly enrich teaching methodologies, boost student engagement, and deepen the understanding of Islamic values. This foundational exploration provides a valuable conceptual framework for understanding the intersection of digital pedagogy and religious education. While the study effectively identifies key benefits and challenges, its reliance solely on a library research method with a qualitative descriptive approach presents certain limitations. The abstract suggests identifying "challenges and potential solutions," but without empirical data derived from actual classroom implementations or interviews with educators and students, the proposed solutions and effectiveness claims remain largely conceptual. The study highlights "unequal access, low digital literacy, and digital distractions" as critical obstacles, yet the abstract does not detail how the *study itself* explores these beyond identification from existing literature. This approach, while useful for synthesizing current knowledge, may lack the depth required to provide nuanced, context-specific insights into the practicalities and effectiveness of digital innovations in diverse PAI learning environments. Overall, this paper makes a pertinent contribution to the discourse on modernizing Islamic Religious Education by emphasizing the strategic importance of digital innovation. Its clear articulation of both the opportunities and the inherent challenges provides a solid theoretical starting point for educators and policymakers. To further enhance its impact, future research stemming from this work would greatly benefit from empirical validation. This could involve case studies in schools, action research exploring specific digital interventions, or surveys/interviews with stakeholders to gather primary data on the effectiveness of digital tools and the practical barriers to their implementation. Such empirical work would not only strengthen the evidence base for the proposed benefits but also inform more robust, evidence-based policy recommendations for developing truly adaptive and character-oriented digital learning environments in PAI.
