Abstract

Libraries play an important role in increasing students' reading interest. Digitalization expands access and attracts the interest of the younger generation, although challenges in accessing technology still exist. Evaluation of the effectiveness of digitization is necessary. The role of teachers, parents, and collaboration between libraries, schools, families, and government support is crucial for optimally supporting literacy development. The digital library at MAN 1 Medan shows that digital library services play an important role in increasing students' reading interest. The effectiveness and accessibility of the digital library, as well as the factors influencing its use, significantly contribute to the increase in students' reading interest. The digitization of the library at MAN 1 Medan significantly enhances students' reading interest. The research uses a qualitative approach with methods such as literature study, interviews, observations, and documentation from students, teachers, and librarians. Data is analyzed through reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing, and its validity is tested through triangulation. The research results are expected to provide a clear picture of the effectiveness of library digitization and serve as a reference for future studies. The digital library implemented since 2024 aims to increase students' reading interest by providing access to a more diverse collection and digital applications. Digitalization is effective if supported by good implementation and the active role of teachers. Accessibility, ease of use, internet network quality, and the relevance of digital collections are important factors. Despite its great potential, digital libraries require more outreach, adequate infrastructure, and support from various parties to achieve optimal results.

Review

This abstract presents a timely and relevant qualitative study exploring the effectiveness of library digitization in increasing students' reading interest at MAN 1 Medan. The topic addresses a critical contemporary issue in education and librarianship, as institutions worldwide grapple with leveraging digital resources to foster literacy among the younger generation. The abstract clearly states that the digital library at MAN 1 Medan plays an important role, claiming that its digitization "significantly enhances students' reading interest." The research approach is qualitative, employing diverse methods such as literature study, interviews, observations, and documentation involving students, teachers, and librarians, which suggests a comprehensive data gathering strategy. The strength of the proposed research lies in its multi-stakeholder perspective, incorporating insights from various groups directly involved with or impacted by the digital library. The abstract effectively highlights several factors influencing the effectiveness of digitization, including accessibility, ease of use, internet network quality, and the relevance of digital collections. The mention of data analysis through reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing, alongside validity testing through triangulation, indicates a thoughtful methodological framework for ensuring the rigor of the qualitative findings. Furthermore, the acknowledgment of broader support systems (teachers, parents, and inter-institutional collaboration) and existing challenges (access to technology, need for outreach and infrastructure) demonstrates a balanced understanding of the complex landscape surrounding digital literacy initiatives. However, several aspects of the abstract raise questions that the full paper would need to address for robust academic contribution. Crucially, the abstract states that the digital library was "implemented since 2024." Evaluating the "effectiveness" and claiming "significant enhancement" of reading interest within such a short timeframe (presumably months, depending on when the research was conducted in 2024) presents a methodological challenge. The paper must thoroughly justify how meaningful and substantial effectiveness can be reliably measured in such an immediate period, particularly for complex behavioral changes like reading interest. Additionally, while qualitative methods are appropriate, terms like "significantly enhances" often imply a quantitative measure of impact; the study should meticulously articulate how "significance" is defined, observed, and substantiated within its qualitative framework. Finally, while a broad range of influencing factors and stakeholders are mentioned, the full paper should clearly delineate the specific scope of this study at MAN 1 Medan, clarifying how these broader themes were investigated and connected to the direct impact of the library's digitization on student reading interest.
