Synergistic integration of land and sea transportation: realizing oosthaven as a strategic port city at the tip of sumatra. Oosthaven's strategic port development in Sumatra, driven by land-sea transportation integration and Dutch colonial trade policies. Analyze its economic growth and social impact on Lampung.
This study discusses the development of Oosthaven Port and the importance of integrating land and sea transportation in making it a strategic port city at the southern tip of Sumatra. The primary focus of this research is to analyze how the development of this port was driven by Dutch colonial policies that emphasized the control of trade in key commodities such as pepper, coffee, and rubber. Additionally, the study examines the role of land transportation through the construction of railway lines connecting the port to inland areas, thus facilitating the distribution of commodities to international markets. Oosthaven, which initially served as a simple port, evolved into a crucial trade hub due to the efficient coordination of land and sea transportation infrastructure. This research shows that the development and management of transportation integration at Oosthaven not only accelerated the economic growth of the Lampung region but also reflected the influence of colonial policies in regulating and dominating the trade system, while introducing a social structure that prioritized segregation based on class and ethnicity.
This study proposes an insightful historical analysis of Oosthaven Port, examining its transformation into a strategic port city at the southern tip of Sumatra through the synergistic integration of land and sea transportation. The abstract effectively outlines the core argument, positioning the port's development within the broader framework of Dutch colonial policies. The explicit focus on how these policies drove the control of key commodities like pepper, coffee, and rubber provides a strong contextual foundation for understanding the economic imperatives behind the infrastructure development and the port's evolution from a simple facility to a crucial trade hub. A significant strength of this research lies in its multi-faceted approach, which transcends a purely economic or logistical analysis. By detailing the construction of railway lines connecting the port to inland areas for efficient commodity distribution, the study clearly demonstrates the practical implementation of "synergistic integration." Furthermore, the abstract promises a deeper exploration into the socio-political dimensions, noting the acceleration of economic growth in the Lampung region alongside the reflective influence of colonial policies in dominating trade and introducing a social structure characterized by class and ethnic segregation. This comprehensive perspective is crucial for a nuanced understanding of colonial legacies in infrastructure development. Ultimately, this research appears poised to offer a valuable contribution to the historical geography of port cities and the lasting impact of colonial economic strategies. The findings, which span economic growth, trade regulation, and social stratification, underscore the complex and often contradictory outcomes of such large-scale infrastructural projects. The proposed study promises not only to illuminate a critical period in Sumatra's economic history but also to provide historical lessons on the intricate interplay between transportation, policy, and societal structure that continue to resonate in contemporary development discourse.
