Review

This paper, "Suporter Persija Jakarta sebagai Media Strategis Komunikasi Politik di Pilkada Jakarta," addresses a highly relevant and timely topic concerning the intersection of popular culture, specifically football, and political communication in the context of the Jakarta gubernatorial elections. The abstract effectively highlights the significant role of Persija Jakarta and its passionate supporter group, The Jakmania, as a strategic medium for political outreach. It posits that due to their large numbers, high loyalty, and critical stance, The Jakmania influences public opinion and campaign strategies, ultimately benefiting political candidates by fostering emotional connections and assessing candidate integrity. The research employs a qualitative approach, utilizing in-depth interviews, news analysis, and social media analysis to explore these dynamics. A key strength of this study lies in its focus on a specific and influential supporter group, offering a nuanced perspective on their agency within the political landscape. The abstract clearly articulates the contribution that The Jakmania goes beyond mere numerical support, actively evaluating candidates based on integrity rather than superficial promises. This finding provides valuable insight into the evolving nature of political communication, demonstrating how highly engaged communities like football supporters can serve as effective conduits for messages and opinion formation, bridging the gap between politicians and the electorate through shared passion and emotional ties. The chosen qualitative methodology appears appropriate for exploring these complex social dynamics and capturing the depth of supporter sentiment. While the abstract presents compelling initial findings, a full paper would benefit from elaborating on several fronts. Future iterations or the complete manuscript should aim to provide a more robust theoretical framework beyond the general concept of "political communication," perhaps drawing on theories of social movements, political branding, or fan studies to deepen the analysis. Furthermore, while stating The Jakmania's influence, the mechanism and *extent* of this influence on actual voting behavior could be explored with greater specificity. Detailing the types of critical assessment applied by The Jakmania and the concrete examples of how their actions translate into political advantage would strengthen the empirical evidence. Finally, exploring potential counter-narratives or the limitations of such a strategy from the perspective of non-football followers would enrich the discussion, offering a more comprehensive understanding of this complex strategic interaction.
