Abstract

The current article aims at analysing the Latin loanwords that appear in Decires líricos, which is an important lyrical creation by Íñigo López de Mendoza, Marqués de Santillana (1398-1458). The hypothesis we start from is that, through his artistical contribution, the Marqués de Santillana illustrated the tendency of the Spanish Prerenaissance to redefine the status of the vernacular languages in connection with the classical languages. The methodology that we will use is based on the identification and classification of the Latinloanwords of the corpus in a chronological order, by comparing and analysing different lexicographical sources.
