Abstract

Дослідження присвячене висвітленню ролі аналогії в утворенні та перекладі мовної гри. Актуальність розвідки зумовлена важливою роллю аналогії в утворенні лексикалізованих форм мовної гри та виборі перекладачем стратегії їхнього іншомовного відтворення. Мета дослідження має подвійний характер: (1) визначити, як аналогія впливає на створення різних форм мовної гри в англійськомовному науково-популярному дискурсі; (2) визначити, як аналогія впливає на прийняття перекладачем рішення стосовно стратегії відтворення зазначених форм мовної гри в українському перекладі. Об’єктом нашого дослідження виступає аналогія як психологічний механізм і когнітивна процедура формального та/або семантичного уподібнення однієї мовної одиниці іншій, а також перенесення відношень між одиницями однієї групи на одиниці іншої групи. Предметом аналізу є її вплив на формування мовної гри в англійськомовному науково-популярному дискурсі та на формування стратегій її українського перекладу. Для реалізації поставленої мети було залучено низку методів, таких як: стилістичний аналіз, контекстний аналіз, структурно-семантичний аналіз, порівняльний аналіз вихідного та цільового текстів. За матеріал було використано лексикалізовані форми мовної гри з англійськомовного науково-популярного дискурсу та їхні українські переклади. Проведене дослідження дозволяє дійти висновку, що формування лексикалізованих форм мовної гри, як і будь-яка словотвірна діяльність, відбувається за аналогією з узуальними лексемами. У перекладі ми спостерігаємо вплив аналогії в тих випадках, коли перекладач обирає стратегію дзеркального відтворення авторських дій, копіюючи обраний ним спосіб словотвору та використовуючи для цього прямі відповідники використаних мовних одиниць. Перспектива подальшого дослідження передбачає: (1) залучення масштабного корпусу прикладів для верифікації попередніх висновків: (2) вивчення інших психо-когнітивних механізмів перекладу.

This paper delves into the critical role of analogy in both the formation and subsequent translation of language play, an area of significant interest in linguistics and translation studies. The research posits that analogy is fundamental to the creation of lexicalized forms of language play and heavily influences a translator's strategic choices when rendering these forms into another language. With a dual objective, the study aims to elucidate how analogy shapes language play in English popular science discourse and, consequently, how it guides translators' decisions in producing Ukrainian equivalents. By identifying analogy as a key psychological mechanism and cognitive procedure, the paper seeks to illuminate a foundational aspect of linguistic creativity and interlingual transfer. The methodology employed in this study is robust, integrating stylistic, contextual, structural-semantic, and comparative analyses of source and target texts. The material under investigation consists of lexicalized forms of language play extracted from English popular science discourse, paired with their respective Ukrainian translations. The findings suggest that the creation of lexicalized language play, akin to general word-formation processes, is predominantly driven by analogy with established lexemes. In the translational context, the research highlights analogy's impact when translators consciously choose a strategy of "mirror reproduction," meticulously replicating the author's original word-formation techniques and opting for direct linguistic equivalents in the target text. These conclusions provide valuable insights into the cognitive processes underpinning linguistic innovation and the strategic considerations in translation. This paper makes a relevant contribution to understanding the interplay between cognitive mechanisms and linguistic phenomena, particularly in the nuanced domain of language play and its translation. The clear articulation of the research objectives and the methodical approach are commendable. While the abstract offers a solid theoretical framework and compelling initial conclusions, the call for a "large corpus for verification" in future research implicitly acknowledges a potential limitation in the empirical breadth of the current study, suggesting that the initial findings might benefit from broader substantiation. The proposed future directions, including the expansion of the corpus and the exploration of other psycho-cognitive mechanisms, are well-considered and indicate a promising trajectory for further development of this important line of inquiry.
