Abstract

Review

This review paper, titled "REVIEW TINJAUAN ANALISIS KADAR SURFAKTAN ANIONIK DETERJEN DALAM AIR MENGGUNAKAN METODE SPKETROFOTOMETRI UV-VIS," addresses a highly relevant and critical environmental issue: the presence of anionic surfactants from detergent waste in aquatic environments. The abstract clearly states the paper's objective to analyze the content of anionic surfactants in water, focusing on the application of UV-Vis spectrophotometry as a primary analytical method. The authors indicate a literature-based approach, utilizing online search engines like Google Scholar to gather pertinent information, which is a standard starting point for such reviews. The significance of this work lies in highlighting the adverse effects of surfactant pollution, such as the formation of thin films on water surfaces which reduce permeability, and the potential risks to human health. While acknowledging other advanced analytical techniques like Gas Chromatography (GC) and High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), the paper appropriately centers on UV-Vis spectrophotometry, often a more accessible and cost-effective method for routine environmental monitoring. A key finding presented in the abstract is the alarming revelation that anionic surfactant levels in specific Indonesian rivers—Barito, Martapura, and Negara—have surpassed the limits set by Government Regulation Number 82 of 2001, underscoring a significant environmental concern in these regions. However, for a review paper explicitly focusing on analytical methodology ("Tinjauan Analisis"), the abstract provides limited detail regarding the specific application of UV-Vis spectrophotometry for anionic surfactants. It would significantly strengthen the paper to elaborate on the principles, common reagents (e.g., Methylene Blue Active Substances - MBAS method), typical analytical procedures, potential interferences, sensitivity, and practical considerations when using UV-Vis for this analysis. A more detailed comparative discussion on the advantages and limitations of UV-Vis relative to GC and HPLC in terms of sensitivity, selectivity, and cost would also enhance its utility for researchers and practitioners. Despite this, the paper successfully brings attention to a pressing environmental problem, and a more in-depth analytical review would be highly beneficial.
