Abstract

In this research, we use the notion of religious moderation to examine the relationship between Christians and Muslims in Hoyane village, Seko District, North Luwu. The perspectives of Christians are highlighted in this study. In the research locus, information was gathered via interviews and observation. To find out their opinions on dealing with Muslims, we spoke with leaders in the Christian community. The study's findings demonstrate that the existence of tabligh congregations strains ties between religions. Nonetheless, Christians attempt to live with this by maintaining their relationships with Muslims. Acknowledge the growing religious consciousness among Muslims and cultivate a welcoming and tolerant mindset. They also reinforce interfaith cooperation and unity through a cultural approach.

Review

This paper tackles a highly pertinent and complex topic: the dynamics of Christian-Muslim relations within the framework of religious moderation in a specific, localized context—Hoyane village, Seko District, North Luwu. The research's focus on a particular community offers a valuable empirical lens into interfaith coexistence, moving beyond broad generalizations to capture nuanced local realities. By specifically highlighting Christian perspectives through interviews and observation with community leaders, the study promises to deliver a distinctive and important viewpoint on how one religious group navigates increasingly diverse religious landscapes, especially concerning the concept of religious moderation. The abstract effectively presents compelling findings regarding the challenges and adaptive strategies within the community. It identifies the emergence of tabligh congregations as a source of strain on interreligious ties, a crucial observation that grounds the study in real-world tensions. More importantly, it highlights the proactive measures taken by Christians to maintain harmony: acknowledging growing Muslim religious consciousness, cultivating a tolerant mindset, and leveraging cultural approaches for interfaith cooperation and unity. While these findings align well with the principles of religious moderation, the abstract primarily describes these observed actions without fully elaborating on *how* the "notion of religious moderation" is analytically applied to dissect these specific strategies or their effectiveness. Despite the valuable empirical insights offered, a potential limitation, based solely on the abstract, lies in the depth of theoretical engagement with "religious moderation." The abstract states the notion is *used to examine*, but it doesn't detail the specific theoretical framework or indicators of religious moderation that guided the analysis of the observed behaviors. Future work could benefit from a more explicit articulation of this framework and its application. Additionally, while the exclusive focus on Christian perspectives provides depth, exploring Muslim perspectives in relation to the same issues would offer a more comprehensive understanding of the "relasi" (relationship). Nonetheless, this study contributes significantly by providing valuable empirical evidence of community-level interfaith navigation, showcasing resilience and practical strategies for maintaining social cohesion amidst religious evolution.
